SD-55: Alesi to Flip?
We heard this rumor Election night, but were asked to keep it under our hats, pending negotiations. But it sounds like the word’s getting out. I’ve heard rumors of at least 2 other GOP senators considering flipping as well, but none as concrete as the one about Alesi.
I have mixed feelings about this. I’m interested in the reforms that are possible from an air-tight Dem majority in the Senate, but I would want to see some voting that would support that reform. And if I’m going to be consistent, the “love buying” campaign finance model that Alesi, Robach and other GOPers have used doesn’t feel any better if they’re Dems doing it.
I guess I’m going to try to be open-minded about it, and continue pushing for the kinds of reform that will eliminate the ability to do that “love buying”. What do you think?

I admire those who change parties after soul searching and discovering that the other party better represents their view of the world. However, when it’s just for political maneuvering or to be part of the “in” crowd, I’m against it - even if it were to benefit the Dems. If the Dems didn’t take control of the Senate, I double Alesi would even be considering a switch.
I would agree with you about control of the Senate, however, this is about individual political opportunity.
Given the recent State government history climate (3 guys in a room) what individual legislators wanted to do (on both sides) was stifled by their respective leadership if the leadership disagreed.
Oh, speaking of opportunity - We asked this same question 10 days ago especially in light of the then gang of four.
I don’t think this would be political. Jim is a member of my church - Spiritus Christi (very liberal church) and I have never been able to figure out how it aligns with him being a republican.
I personally don’t want him. He’s part of the problem, not part of the solution, and is only in it for what’s best for him.
They can have him, I don’t want him…he’s too fat for me…
The “Too Fat Polka”…Isn’t that how the song goes?
