Last thoughts on Nachbar
Well - it is nice to break a story. I was disappointed that we couldn’t figure out how to quote someone w/o burning the source but scheduling problems in Chicago put us out of touch for a bit so, in the end, we left the details to others.
Frankly - Nachbar dropping out was the right thing to do for the 29th district. Say what you want, but Nachbar loses the primary, a primary that he is certainly entitled to run, but nevertheless most certainly loses. Most likely, he wouldn’t have much of a chance against Kuhl either, given that he’s from Pittsford and how much the Southern Tier wants a Congressman who is from the Southern Tier.
You likely saw the videos - Nachbar’s attitude simply didn’t resonate. I posted the entire first 20 odd minutes with some Q&A There wasn’t editing or skipping around. There are additional segments that never got posted. Again passion and vigor simply wasn’t there.
Then there was the DCCC video. In fact, I know he lost votes in Brighton (i.e. a few were wavering about an early endorsement of Massa) when he implied that the DCCC were backing him and told him to run despite Massa’s performance last time. Rookie performance? Nope - I believe he thought the name dropping would sway members. It had the opposite effect.
I truly believe that this district is about local people and scorns interference - real or perceived from the outside. Nachbar’s DCCC comments didn’t help him in Brighton. I know the DCCC didn’t like the flurry of calls that video and post generated. I can only imagine the conversations that took place. In the end what is public is the DCCC said they didn’t encourage him - the video says otherwise, so someone is misrepresenting themselves.
So, Adios David Nachbar. After almost running twice now we still hardly know you. However there are ways to change that. This isn’t about tossing cashed out stock options at salivating Democrats either - it is about rolling up your sleeves, breaking a sweat and getting to work. Something you profess to be good at.
1. Get involved in the Pittsford Committee - Help the cause by turning Pittsford Blue
2. Become active at MCDC - Who knows - maybe really help flip the legislature. Then you can get appointed to the COMIDA board. Start really creating jobs. Gain some prominence and visibility. There are other opportunities as well - COMIDA is one of my favorites so I started with that.
3. Get out more and start networking with the local grassroots. They don’t bite - really. Come across as sincere and these people will take a bullet for you. Come across as pompous, arrogant, disingenuous or entitled and, well, you won’t get their support. The grass roots knows the difference.

I agree! Maybe Nachbar thinks he can gain street cred with local Democrats by merely claiming that Bobby Kennedy was his hero growing up. (Even though, based on Nachbar’s age, he was barely out of diapers when RFK was assassinated). Greed finally convinced him to do what the grassroots couldn’t. It’s well within his power to turn things around, but I’m guessing that, based on his past history, padding his own nest will come first & we won’t be seeing him networking locally or sitting on the COMIDA board!
Anne -
great summary.
I’m not sure if I agree with this sentence but let me try this explanation. There were multiple pressure points applied to the Nachbar candidancy. The grassroots certainly played a role. Was it the final straw? I don’t know. I do know without the grassroots mobilizing what ever the final straw was - doesn’t necessarily happen.
I still can’t get these two facts out of my mind: Nachbar’s only donations came from conservative/Republican out-of-state donors, and his lukewarm body language/lack of passion as seen in your videos. Red flags, both. Maybe they point to something more sinister, maybe not. Well, I guess I won’t stay up nights worrying about Nachbar any more. Thanks for your efforts, Stlo7.
Paige - I hear you. the body language and passion is more important here than the donations. There were many donations, the ones I listed were the only ones I found that those were likely friends.
I think in the end you have to be willing to sacrifice. Work outside the comfort zone. Specifically, when you are talking about how you can serve the needs of the 29th because you are ready to do this then focus solely on the needs to 13,000 B&L employees because they need you.
Well the “meeting the needs of the 29th story” rings hollow.
I realize that now we are officially “beating a dead horse†(or is that “beating a dead donkey) regarding Nachbar.
But I find it exceedingly strange that Nachbar didn’t have any Democratic friends donate. If I was running as a Democrat for public office, I would first call my Democratic friends and ask for donations. Secondly, I find his lack of body language and passion exceedingly strange  every corporate VP or President that I have ever met or seen speak was a dynamic and engaging speaker whose passion was obvious (some were frauds, but that’s another story).
Again the Democratic donations - I can’t verify any were not Democrats but…
Your point on the body language is spot on for me that was critical. I was at the meeting - the film doesn’t lie. Also - I’d be happy to swap “fraud” stories at some point.
