Protest in Bath

GranolaBox reports on an anti-escalation-in-Iraq protest aimed at getting Kuhl to stop supporting escalation in Iraq. This is noteworthy, because Bath is probably the center of Kuhl’s support in NY-29 — he’s from Bath, as he has told voters more or less ad nauseam.

Eventually, the national media will figure out that isn’t just urban and college town liberals who want us out of Iraq…it’s 70% of the US population.

100% of the U.S. population wants us out of Iraq, it’s just that 28% are truly fooled by Bush’s war lust. I’ve talked to members of this group and they are truly convinced it is anti-American to question the president no matter what. How did they forget Watergate? The other 2%? Hands over their ears saying “I can’t hear you. I can’t hear you. Lalalalalaalala.”

99,000 or so people live in Steuben County - let’s not get too excited about the 15 who showed up to protest.

The fact that ANY showed is pretty amazing– and a big change from the past, when people might have been unhappy with Kuhl’s support of the war, but not enough to protest.

I think the point of the article is, wow– even in Bath they’re getting fed up now.

I don’t think the size of the protest is what matters. What matters is that people got out and protested… period. That’s what more of us need to do. Something as simple as wearing an anti-war shirt or putting a bumper sticker on your car is a step in the right direction. Getting on your feet and doing something public is an even more decisive step. The more people that make that decisive step, the sooner this war will end.
