NY-29th: Maggie Brooks on the back burner?
Now that there is an open seat for the NY-29th - which GOP candidate will run? Tom Reed is still in, but Jill come lately, otherwise known as Maggie Brooks is still being bantered about. Funny that when the seat wasn’t open - Maggie Brooks steered clear of it leaving the sacrificial lamb duties to Tom Reed, but now that the seat is open, well - she weighs in.
In the end it might not matter - the district GOP county chairs favor Reed and will decide who to run if there is a special election.
Seven of eight Republican county chairmen have lined up behind former Corning Mayor Tom Reed in the race for Congress in the 29th District, making a run by Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks in a special election unlikely.
The seven party leaders represent nearly 70 percent of the weighted vote of the district’s Republican committees.
Five of the seven party leaders cited Reed’s willingness to get in the race when incumbent Eric Massa was seeking re-election.
…
Monroe County Republican Chairman Bill Reilich is the single Republican chairman who does not support Reed at this time, though he endorsed Reed in July. Reilich said an open seat changes the political landscape. He cited concern about Reed’s fundraising ability and said that Brooks has received calls of support and has the ability to raise money.

Just one comment…the 8 GOP County Chairs do not decide whether there will be a special election to fill the seat. The Gov. makes that decision.
Sorry - corrected above - meant to write …will decide who to run if there is a special election.
