The Vultures are circling - Let the Rumor and innuendo fly re Massa
If you can stomach it - go over and read Bob Lonsberry’s column on Eric Massa’s announcement yesterday to to seek reelection. You will learn that Bob Lonsberry has known for over three years (2 election cycles)
the fact that he [Massa]is reportedly attracted to men, and that he manifests it in inappropriate ways.
See- We have the appropriate weasel words “fact” followed by “reportedly.” Then he goes on
When I heard the allegations against Eric Massa yesterday, they were sadly similar to allegations I became aware of during his first congressional campaign and which, though I was confident of their truthfulness, I did not report.
These allegations come from general shipboard understandings and conversations, and were relayed to me by shipmates of Eric Massa.
What does this mean? So Lonsberry “knows about stuff and this stuff doesn’t make it out to the light of day. Let’s be clear, if true, great for Lonsberry, But if stories are making it to Lonsberry are they not making it out to other sources? Seriously? 2006 and 2008 were nasty campaigns - how does this info not make it out?
Then there is this
Whether that happened or not, only two people know. But the story was known on the ship and was passed to me by a fellow officer and graduate of the Naval Academy.
There is more but seriously folks - as Lonsberry positions himself as some sort of self serving “told you so guy.” The self serving part is about boosting his credibility.
Ask yourself this - Does anyone - believe that if Lonsberry had this info other people didn’t have it and why didn’t it come out? Out of the goodness of the oppositions heart? Sorry, folks I’m afraid that isn’t how it works.
(personal note - I’ve got a busy day so will check in as I can, I wanted to write more on this post but need to end it now and get back to my paying gig)

You are ready to throw Paterson under the bus based on allegations propped up by unnamed sources yet you don’t even mention that Steny Hoyer has confirmed that the House Ethics Committee is in possession of allegations regarding Massa and his actions toward a male staffer. I would say that is a bit inconsistent.
I don’t think I’ve been inconsistent. Sources have been named and there has been a pattern of nonsense coming out of the Governors office. Most recently - The story where he called a witness and directed his staff to also do so.
The stuff with Massa - well - like I said the vultures are flying - Rumor and innuendo run amok. Sure there is an ethics violation but has anyone actually said what it is? No just speculation. Then there is the Lonsberry story where supposedly something has been going on for years? Yeah and no one knew.
Stay on topic.
On topic? How much more relevant could my comment containing the link to the AP article be? It relates directly to statements made in Lonsberry’s column, which you cited.
Um, no it doesn’t - You mentioned me being inconsistent and brought up Paterson then you come back with supposed links to the Lonsberry post. The “blog” mentioned the was Politico article which of course AP picked up.
Lonsberry came out today and contained dredged up “allegations” from the past.
we are done here Mike.
I’d rather argue in person - the back and forth in comments doesn’t really work for me.
Conservapedia is quoting the Politico article about Massa and their page about him “omits” the fact that he is a cancer survivor and served this country for 24 years.
“The story where he called a witness and directed his staff to also do so.”
Did you get t the part that his staff never contacted her? It was buried several paragraphs in.
Apparently, according to important , mostly anonymous sources, Paterson is lazy. And he got some baseball tickets. Heavens to Betsy!
“The self serving part is about boosting his credibility.”
What credibility is there to boost?
While Lonsberry slings the mud about extramartital affairs, he has the unmitigated gall to insult the public with the following:
“Further, there was the matter of his family. He is married and has three children, and cavalierly hurting his family was not something I had the stomach for.”
I see. But apparently lying and cheating behind the backs of HIS wife (wives?) and children in a very public affair(s), he DOES have the stomach for and is cool with?
Hypocrisy, thy name is Bob.
I’m not defending Massa, his record or his actions. But when some newspaper washout starts with the ‘My Sources Say’ routine à la Rona Barrett, it merely amounts to the babbling of some backwater burg radio shock jock dishing out innuendo, gossip and rumors.
And until Massa’s allegations are proven conclusively, that’s all it is: hearsay ‘evidence’ which Lonsberry, the ostensibly pious family man, has no business even mentioning given his past peccadiloes and two divorces.
MAYBE Massa IS a closeted gay and exercised poor judgement… and then again, MAYBE he ISN’T running for office due to health issues. He wouldn’t be the first Congressional representative in either circumstance and speculation, while sometimes true, isn’t the hallmark of a competent commentator or journalist.
Lonsberry’s record speaks for itself. Past incidences of racism, homophobia and blatant hypocrisy all point to some washed-out has-been struggling to remain in the spotlight. He’s an anachronism, pathetically yearning for the days of Andy, Opie and Aunt Bea’s apple pies while desperately predicting “The End Is Near” for the American economy and society.
“Woe is us”, chime his groupies. “Bob says we’re doomed, so it must be true”.
Lonsberry’s worst nightmare would be to be publicly ignored and relegated to obscurity; considering the number of local media bridges he’s burned, his radio gig is his last shot at remaining visible. He whined like a schoolgirl after being canned due to the ex-Mayor Bill Johnson on-air gaffe, panic-struck at how he was going to come up with a job.
Credibility? He has none.
The allegations appear to be solidifying.
All this about Lonsberry is true, but I am compelled to admit that his arithmetic, at least, is more or less accurate, at least in this case, and it points to one of the odd cracks in Eric’s weekend -um- comments. How’s that again, about the “single deciding vote?”
