Wednesday Wingnut Watch

Haiti Haters Edition

Tragedies like this are tailor-made for liberals who want to look like humanitarians. So said Rush on Wednesday. By the same token, do such disasters give conservatives a chance to show us how little they care about people?

“We’ve already donated to Haiti. It’s called the U.S. income tax.” Thanks for keepin it real, Rush.

And furthermore, we’re hurting ourselves by recruiting “national embarrassment” Bill Clinton to co-chair the bi-partisan effort to raise money for Haiti. So says conservative national embarrassment Ann Coulter, whose heart goes out that we now “force poor ex-President Bush… to be hanging around with Bill Clinton…” Coulter  conveniently overlooks that Bush himself asked Clinton to spearhead similar efforts with ex-President George H.W. Bush.

When all else fails, we have fair and balanced reporting at Fox News to keep the record straight. Oops, it seems that Fox devoted a whopping seven minutes to Haiti on its three highest rated shows:

On January 13, Fox News’ three top-rated programs for 2009 — The O’Reilly Factor, Hannity, and Glenn Beck — devoted a combined total of less than 7 minutes of coverage to the earthquake in Haiti, instead choosing to air such things as Beck’s hour-long interview with Sarah Palin, Bill O’Reilly’s discussion of Comedy Central host Jon Stewart, and Sean Hannity’s advocacy for Massachusetts candidate Scott Brown’s Senate campaign. By contrast, the content of MSNBC’s three top-rated shows underscored the significance of the Haiti disaster; Countdown, The Rachel Maddow Show, and Hardball devoted a total of more than two hours to the earthquake.

Haiti, it’s your own fault because you made a pact with the devil. We alerted you to this bit of nonsense from oldie-but-goodie crackpot Pat Robertson  last week on Wednesday evening. Here’s the video:

without commenting on the rest I will say this of what was brought up here. I find it funny that the left leaning “media” is all over Fox about how much time they have dedicated to Haiti. You folks on the national scene are dropping like flies and Fox is the only folks covering it. I am sure you would like them to spend every waking second covering the Hatians so that it would take the spot light off of your failed administration. 2010 is going to be a huge disaster for you starting last night.

While I don’t agree with your take on why MSNBC, etc. are overcovering Haiti, I do think they are. I understand that it is a tragedy. The efforts being made by the international community is incredible, but at a certain point we need to talk about what’s going on at home, not rehashing the same disaster story for hours on end. For once and I can’t believe I’m saying this, I applaud Fox News for continuing to cover domestic issues.

I think there is a difference between initial coverage (those 7 mins) and extended coverage.

In fact, FNC did such a bad job of covering the earthquake during all of last week they were the #2 most watched primetime cable network. USA was #1. Those bastions of how news should be covered, CNN and MSNBC were 15th and 28th respectively.

I see you’re following in their fine example by simply ignoring the nonsense that spewed forth from Danny Glover about the cause of the earthquake. Wingnut? No way!

It is only a wingnut when someone with conservative viewpoints says it. They could do a daily wingnut watch on olberman with the crap he spews.
