Health Care posturing - Hedging or poor reporting.

I missed this article in the D&C that appeared over the holiday break.  It has a run down of where our local Reps stand on the current Senate Health Care bill.

Reaction by the Rochester-area congressional delegation to the Senate’s action was mixed and didn’t always run along party lines. Maffei feared that some provisions in the Senate bill might harm upstate’s health care industry. Rep. Eric Massa, D-Corning, who voted against the House measure, said that he would introduce an alternative plan. Rep. Chris Lee, R-Clarence, Erie County, who also voted against the House measure, said that the Senate version was more about expanding access and not controlling costs. Rep. Louise Slaughter, D-Fairport, who supported the House bill, said in a statement that there were many good aspects of the bills to work through. Gov. David Paterson expressed concern about an increasing Medicaid burden.

Go read the whole thing but let me chat about Rep Louise Slaughter for a moment.

Who said ..

But under the Senate plan, millions of Americans will be forced into private insurance company plans, which will be subsidized by taxpayers. That alternative will do almost nothing to reform health care but will be a windfall for insurance companies. Is it any surprise that stock prices for some of those insurers are up recently?

Why, that would be Rep Slaughter.  So, let’s look at the quote in the D&C article.

Rep. Louise Slaughter, D-Fairport, who supported the House bill, said in a statement that there were many good aspects of the bills to work through

So, how do we go from a rather strong condemnation of the Senate Health Care bill to a nebulous throw away sentence. Later in the article this appears

Slaughter said in a statement. She went on to say that she would continue to push to make sure that seniors are protected from skyrocketing premiums, to strip insurance companies of their ability to avoid anti-trust suits and to immediately eliminate domestic violence as a pre-existing condition.

So which is it?  Why isn’t there more focus on  Rep Slaughter’s opinion that the “senate plan that will do nothing to reform health care ….”

Is Louise hedging or is the D&C reporter, with help from the AP, failing to connect the dots.
