Eric Massa talks Health Care on FOX and Friends
Realizing that FOX and Friends sounds like and oxymoron from our perspective, I just got this email and wanted to share it with our readers:
Congressman Eric Massa will be interviewed on Fox and Friends on the Fox News Channel tomorrow morning, Thursday September 10th. The interview will air at 6:45AM EST. Please tune in as Congressman Massa responds to President Obama’s Health Care speech.
As I will be working this evening, I will miss the president’s speech. I will probably have to YouTube it tomorrow morning. This better be good! Stand tall, Mr President and deliver for the people who voted for change. We are counting on you to “turn the page on the policies of the past”.

Therein lies your problem, counting on a politician for anything.
What is Massa up to appearing on Fox and Friends?
I personally disagree with Massa that it’s got to be single payer or nothing, because we will not get single payer now. But maybe we can in the future - incrementally. And some steps are better than nothing. I’m not one who believes that we should let the system crash and burn in order to get reform. Is he? Or is this a cynical attempt to oppose health care reform for his constituents in the southern tier, voting against it, while appealing to his progressive base in Monroe County? And how is he helping himself on F&F by subjecting himself to ridicule? Here’s the transcript from that website (It’s Fox - I can’t vouch for its accuracy. In fact, I can probably vouch that it’s not accurate since it’s Fox.)
From Fox and Friends website:
“I Know Better!
Democrats claimed that their health care will serve the interest of the American people, but one Democratic congressman doesn’t seem very interested in what his constituents actually think.
New York Representative Eric Massa told reporters that he will support a single-payer health care bill even if that means voting against the interests of his district. You have got to see this to believe it:
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
CONGRESSMAN ERIC MASSA, D-N.Y.: I will vote for the single-payer bill.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Even if it meant you’re being —
MASSA: Listen. I will adamantly vote against —
(CROSSTALK)
MASSA: I will vote adamantly against the interests of my district if I actually think what I’m doing is going to help them.
(CROSSTALK)
MASSA: I will vote against their opinion if I actually believe it will help.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
Isn’t it funny how Democrats always seem to know what’s better for you than you do?
Massa has never said as far as I can tell that it has to be a single payer or nothing. That is not a fair comment. There are many including Massa and President Obama for that matter that have said a Single payer system is the “best” system. Massa’s stance is with the progressive caucus - vote against HR3200 as currently written because of the lack of a robust public option. Supposedly HR 676 (the single payer bill that Massa is a cosponsor) is supposed to come up for a vote. I’m sure Massa will vote for it. I doubt that bill will pass.
The rest of your comment about incrementalism - well - we have addressed the incrementalism of HR3200 on RT. Bottom line - the bill doesn’t have a public option. It does prevent exclusion by preexisting condition and uncaps insurance payments (good things) but in essence allows the Insurance companies to incorporate new customers into the current system. This many work, may not, depending in the largess of the Insurance companies but without an alternative to the current insurance company choices i.e. a public option - what is to say we won’t be right back here at some point in the future?
Re appearing on Fox and Friends - I’ve been back and forth on the GOP propaganda network. Should Dems appear or not - Well, people watch it, Massa is forceful and in the end he represents everyone in the district - not everyone watches the same channel.
“What is Massa up to appearing on Fox and Friends?”
Perhaps he wants to be on a morning cable news show that gets the more viewers than it’s competitors combined?
