Louise Slaughter & Christopher Lee agree: Town Hall Meetings? No Thanks!
Local Congressional Reps Slaughter and Lee disagree on the health care bill: She supports HR 3200 and he opposes it. They agree, however, that they’d both prefer to avoid facing their constiutents on the issue:
The powerful Democrat said she held meetings during the health care debate of 1993 but is concerned that people have showed up to recent meetings with guns, as one man did outside a town hall with President Obama in New Hampshire.
“I think it’s a way to disseminate misinformation,” Slaughter said. “They’re not debating things that are in the bill.”
By discussing the bill, H.R. 3200 over the phone, she can reach as many as 9,000 constituents, including those who couldn’t make a meeting or those who lack child care, she said.
Slaughter’s absence at town hall meetings has caused some residents to ask where she is, and “Where’s Louise?” buttons have been spotted at rallies. Tele-town halls allow constituents to ask questions, but the format does not allow Slaughter to see signs or buttons.
Rep. Chris Lee, R-Clarence, Erie County, has also chosen tele-town halls instead of in-person events.

It’s pretty sad when someone like Louise doesn’t care enough to bother with Town Hall meetings. She’s beginning to show her age, I believe.
She’s on a tele-town hall right now.
I am in Louise Slaughter’s, 28th, Congressional district. I was one of the very first people to sign up for that telephone-meeting and was NOT called.
I believe that it is because Louise Slaughter knew that I am against the HR3200 health care bill.
As a result, I am putting together a meeting for Thursday, September 03, to talk with people in her 28th district about this health care bill and about trying to get Louise Slaughter to change her mind about voting for the bill.

Hope to see you there,
