In Case You Missed It…

Another week, another week of posts.  It was the first week of the House recess and no big surprise we followed the Health Care debate.  Looking back at this we didn’t discuss the Brooks, Duffy and the RenSquare “he said she said.”  ROBUTRAD escaped our notice - probably because there wasn’t any news -

No, this week was mostly about Health Care so here is the local angle on Health Care.

Health Care -

Here is our initial impression of a Medicare Raly rally and lobbying efforts in D.C.  We have video of an English couple discussing British Health Care, President Obama’s Doctor saying the President’s approach of Health Care reform is wrong.

Town halls are announced - at least for some local Reps.   Rep Slaughter wants to have a tele-conference. There seems to be a lot on misinformation out there - from letters to questions at a Town Hall meeting.

We review “Obama’s Health Care” plan courtesy of lazy local news reporting.  Lesson one, Obama doesn’t have “a plan.”

Obama cuts a deal with Big Pharma.  A non-negotiable secret deal.  Yeah, not the Change I hoped for.

In the strange bedfellows department - the Working Families Party, Citizen Action of New York and their allies TARGET Rep Eric Massa and accuse him of obstructing Health Care reform.  Yes, you read that correctly.  They were wrong when they sent out an email call to action and were wrong again when they protested outside Massa’s local office because he is opposed to HR 3200 as currently written. Yeah, the bill that really doesn’t do anything.  It cuts Medicare, Medicaid, and weakens and delays the public option,  etc.  A bad bill is not a victory people.

Oh, Guess what  single payer is on the table and gets a vote.  Amazing when when you fight for something you want.   Krugman gets it right - “prosaic reality of [Obama's] administration isn’t living up to their dreams of transformation.” Yep, go big or go home.

Finally, WFP, CANY and all their allies - this is the Congressman you are targeting.  The same one who handled an crowd of 500 people that included in its ranks many people armed with simple lack of knowledge.  The same lack of knowledge fostered by the misinformation that is perpetuated by the foes of true reform. The White House may have a web site to combat it - we have our Congressman who was simply masterful in his first August recess town hall meeting.  You can read the accounts of the meeting.  You can read a view of the opposition.   Compared  with other meetings around the Country Massa’s efforts was extraordinary.

Monroe County Politics

LD-21 - well, if you don’t have  candidate - hijack the candidate selection process and force a primary.  Carrie Andrews is targeted by people not registered as Democrats in an successful attempt to force a Democratic Primary. We count the petitions and discover lots of GOP nonsense.

New York State Politics

Governor Paterson signs health care reform for New Yorkers.

Jim Alesi and David Gantt miss a lot of Legislative sessions - A lot of sessions.

The D&C Says NYS government should learn of corporate America.  They miss the boat yet again.

AG Cuomo looking at the governors mansion?

Only in NY- (well, maybe not) but a corrupt Pol can pick his successor.

Rep Carolyn Maloney decides to stay a member of the House and not buck for Sen Gillibrand’s seat.
