WFP and Citizens Action are still wrong with regards to Massa and Health Care
Remember, I mentioned the “in district meetings?” Well, yesterday - I heard that the local Working Families Party was going to stage a rally outside Eric Massa’s office urging him to support Health Care reform - apparently they believe Rep Massa is obstructing Health Care reform. Yeah, I was surprised too considering Massa is a huge Health Care reform advocate.
But the WFPs definition of “reform” was to pass HR3200 and tax the rich. We have been down that road before and like I said then Massa is the wrong target.
I went and counted about 20 people. Most were union folks, some were bused in from Buffalo (outside Massa’s district). Frankly I did not see any one who looked familiar and I go to a lot of these rallies.
Like I said - this is the wrong side of wrong. Why? Well, read this recollection of a conversation I had with one of the attendees.
RT - Why are you here?
A - We want Massa to support Obama’s health care plan -
RT - Well, you know that Obama doesn’t have a plan. He has a set of principles.
A - Well, we want Massa to support HR 3200
RT - OK, so that isn’t Obama’s plan it is one of 5 bills in Congress none of which Obama put his name on. Re 3200 You know that the public option is delayed until 2013. You know the bill is basically the MASS plan with mandates and all that.
A - Well , basically I want Eric to tax the rich to pay for health care reform.
RT - So you want the passage of a plan that doesn’t work. This is so wrong.
The conversation went down hill from there.
What I would have added to the conversation is that the WFP, and Citizens Action and the rest want to tax the rich to support a status quo system where Insurance companies still stand between patients and doctors. They want Massa to support a plan that cuts both Medicare AND Medicaid
Look, I’m all for taxing “the rich” to ensure they pay their fair share as members of our society, however, wasted tax money is still wasted tax money so supporting a system/plan that has not worked (the MASS plan) doesn’t make sense.
Oh, while, I’m at it, stealing from the poor (medicare and medicaid cuts) to give to the poor is also a waste.
There has to be something else going on here.
