Weiner to Republicans: “Put up or shut up”
When writing about Brooklyn Congressman Anthony Weiner a few days ago, stlo7 posted an excellent video of him taking on the status quo and arguing against the “private option.” Well, we have fresh video to show, this time with Weiner offering a brilliantly simple amendment to kill the evil, massive, bureaucratic, government-controlled program known as Medicare. His point: its time for Republicans to put up or shut up. If you hate government control over healthcare, then vote to kill Medicare. At the end of the video, you’ll notice that all the Dems on the committee start applauding.
Keep it comin’, congressman.

Weiner is right, get rid of Medicare. The future liabilities of the program are unsustainable. The Government Accounting Office (GAO) issued a report last October stating that government spending is unsustainable, meaning a bankrupt country looms ahead. Medicare is by far responsible for the largest portion of the future debt.
Given that reality, any further government involvement in health care is completely irresponsible. It will just bankrupt the country faster.
No - Weiner is right the GOP are hypocrites with regards to Health Care and Medicare.
It is pointless arguing about whether Republicans are hypocrites or Democrats aren’t, that will not provide any real changes necessary in health care. Getting caught up in the political dogma is why thinks are screwed up now. My main point is what the GAO report has already stated, we can not afford more government health care. If we don’t eliminate what we already have, economic Armageddon is our future.
explain to me how that works. We already spend billions more on health care than any other industrialized country. If that money is redirected through a government system, we will have the best funded government system in the world. Health care is currently bankrupting the country. Single payer is the only thing that will save us.
Wake up, Mike WNT!
[...] So, did we make a difference? I don’t know, you tell me. [...]
Single payer is Obama’s ultimate goal, no matter what he says. Single payer is also the single worst thing that could be done to health care.
If you want to solve a problem, the most effective approach is get to the root cause. The root cause(s) for our high health care costs are government and lack of competition. Medicare is deficit laden and many doctors refuse to participate because the reimbursement rates are inadequate. Single payer will do the same thing on a broad scale. What you will end up with is your worst fear - Only people with CASH will be able to afford quality and timely care. Apply the laws of economics, which can not be swept aside by government mandate, and the only conclusions is that single payer is a disaster.
We spend more now, we have the best medical technology and the shortest waiting times for needed care. Yes, there are ways, through competition, to reduce costs and further improve the quality of care.
[...] What she is talking about is Rep Weiner who is leading the fight for a single payer system and calling GOP hypocrisy as he sees it. He told the GOP to put up or shut up. [...]
