In Case You Missed It…
Welcome to this week’s edition of In case You Missed It… It was 40 Years ago that we landed on the moon. It is still amazing. Let’s have a look at the week that was on Rochesterturning.
The Health Care Debate -
Well, Let’s See - Howard Dean endorses Sen Kirsten Gillibrand because of her stance on Health Care. Meanwhile Gillibrand renews her support for a Public Option. She still uses the term “medicare for all” so good for her and us.
Meanwhile - Anthony Weiner (NY-9) gives a riveting and pointed floor speech on health care certainly worth the 3 mins of time.
There was a letter in the D&C that addressed the false concern that Health Care reform means “rationing.” News flash - our health care is already rationed.
At a Town Hall meeting = Rep Dan Maffei gets shouted at over his Health Care stance. (ed note: - I don’t know how effective this act was in this instance. It would have been nice to have asked a question and recorded a ‘non-answer’)
Meanwhile Rep Massa, rightfully so, questions HR3200 and says he would vote against bill in its current form. Which prompts the Working Families Party t0 accuse Rep Massa of trying to kill health care. The WFP, in this case, have it wrong.
President Obama held a press conference primarily about Health Care where he showed once again his command of the issues.
Look 40 years ago we landed someone on the moon - imagine a health care system without these words.
Monroe County Politics -
- RenSquare -Last week there was a meeting where the City and County disagreed on how to proceed. By Friday, the county’s version of RenSquare was dead. So, Monday - the legal notices - County Exec Brooks holds a press conference -This poll says scrap RenSquare and the City Council actually does when they vote to support a scaled down version of RenSquare. The local FTA office says buh bye as well.
- Same Sex Marriage? The Town of Brighton passes a resolution endorsing Same Sex marriage. Will the State Senator representing Brighton, Joe Robach, support such legislation in the State Senate?
- Town of Greece drama. There was an interesting protest in Greece. Suspended Greece Police Chief Merritt Rahn isn’t going to resign after all. At least not yet.
State Politics
- We have a LT Governor as his appointment moves forward through the legal process - pending appeal of course.
- Check out the “man cave” in Albany.
- In not so shocking news, a poll shows displeasure with the State Senate. The Brennan Center prasies the reform passed n the State Senate so far - says there is still a ways to go.
- Finally, why do we shackle New York State Prisoners when they are having a baby (yes it happens)? What are they going to do escape or something? Doesn’t seem right.
Who wants to be in Congress?
- Rep Carolyn Maloney - flies off the rails - enough said. (whereas this post is about Rep Maloney, the article linked to in the post provided a plethora of background information on Rep Maloney, Sen Gillibrand and Tasini). A good read to be sure.
- NY-23 is Darrell Aubertine’s for the taking. Except, he doesn’t want it. Meanwhile a moderate Republican will run on the GOP side.
- NY-29 - who is going to get Corning’s money? Round one goes to Rep Massa.

Wingnuts is back.
Vanity Fair looks at Governor Sarah Palin’s resignation announcement speech. It is scary to think this person was potentially a heart beat away from the presidency.
That’s it for now - see you next week.
