In Case You Missed It…
Welcome to this week’s edition of In Case You Missed It… What a long strange trip it has been although I seriously doubt we are close to “there” yet. Senator Schumer is apparently confused on the Health Care, Monroe County political drama almost overshadowed the drama in the New York State Senate.
Here is the week that was on RT…
Health Care
Senator Chuck Schumer seems to be shifting or obscuring his position on Health Care. He is in favors of a Public Option (Good) except when he isn’t opposed to something that will cause the Public Option problems.
There was a meeting with his staff where it turns out that while Senator Schumer supports a public option - it isn’t all that Public nor is it an option. Something got lost in the translation and I’m guessing that the needs of the nation and will of the people is what was lost
There is another bus going to D.C. to rectify that and perhaps the good Senator should read this editorial.
The State Senate Stalemate
The stalemate ended at least for now. How? Let’s start with Governor Paterson telling the Senate Dems to make nice with Pedro Espada. Who knew that less than a week later - Espada would be a Dem Leader? But the path to ending the gridlock, at least the public path who knows what goes on behind closed doors, was the possible appointment of a LT Governor. The idea was generally panned yet Governor Paterson scheduled a press conference and appointed a LT Governor. The appointment is immediately blocked but, as if by magic, Pedro Espada returned to the Democratic Caucus breaking the Senate impass. The D&C wrote an weak editorial somehow blaming the Democratic Caucus and the Senate session begins…
I feel like taking a hot shower.
Monroe County Politics
- ROBUTRAD -They say a fish rots from the head and with this email because of this line it looks like so does the Monroe County GOP. In the better late than never department - the County gets a whistle blower hotline.
- RenSquare -Looks like the adults are finally taking over the RenSquare project as City Council and Mayor Duffy step up their efforts to reshape the project. It started with requesting a meeting with Maggie Brooks. Of course, City Council and Mayor Duffy had met and agreed on a strategy to move forward and one thing is for sure - the current plan for RenSquare isn’t something that is supported. Finally, hoping that this is the last gasp of the the project as currently designed - the job and loss of funds mantra is trodded out and nicely dissected.
- County Legislature - I took a lot of flak via email and in the comments of the the about County Legislator Dobson replacement being appointed. The Democratic Party faithful immediate jumped on the appointment as partisan hackery and you know what - it was. But what is forgotten is that the Democrats have done it as well as I’ve pointed out in the comments. So if it is partisan hackery it is partisan hackery whether or not the Dems or the GOP does it.
- Greece Police - Merritt Rahn wants a public hearing and yet another Greece Cop is suspended.
