Robert Morone: Maggie Brooks’ Fall Guy
Those of you who were busy being bored by the Iran-Contra hearings in the 80s will remember that the vast array of wrongdoers (many of whom eventually showed up in the Bush Administration) got off scott free, with the blame being put on one person– Oliver North.
It looks like Maggie Brooks and county leadership are trying to do the same thing with Monroe County’s quaint little ROBUTRAD scandal, if you listen to Brooks’ presser from last week:
Friday, Brooks was quick to place blame on one man. “It is very, very clear to me that Bob Morone was a very calculating individual and this was a very complex scheme.”
But the criminal complaint filed against Morone names county officials, Republican Party fundraisers and elected leaders who allegedly received benefits from the Robutrad group.
Oops. And she would’ve gotten away with it, if it weren’t for you meddling kids! A little honesty, and taking some personal responsibility would be a good first step for Ms. Brooks and county leadership.
PS: Check out the comments on that WHAM13 story I quoted above. No wonder Brooks is trying to CYA and spin like crazy.

Isn’t there some news (in the D and C) that work was done on a conservative party members house in Greece? There seem to be an awful lot of politicians who live in and around Edgemere drive.? Is that just coincidental. Or did Bob Morone have an evil plan to more easily set up politicians?
Yeah, the “heat” is on…watch this D&C video of her big “press”ure conference. Aside from McCann looking like Shrek, check out the comments at 32:03…one of the reporters says “it’s pretty hot in here”, and Maggie says “Yeah, it’s very hot in here”.
The sweat was running off the old anchor’s face. Body language 101: GUILTY.
