In Case You Missed It…

Welcome to another edition of In Case You Missed It… More Health Care, More scandal and more shaping the next set of elections.  Here is the week that was on rochesterturning.

Health Care

Health Care, at least we are told, is first and foremost in the minds of Congress and the President.  Great, however, ultimately we will only get the reform we demand.  We have an opportunity to shape the health care reform debate since we have 4 local members of Congress and two senators who have a say.  Of course,  their say is not as important as your say.

We opened the week with story about Health Care reformers passing petitions supporting a “Medicare for All” Health Care reform option.  Congresswomen Louise Slaughter  sent Ladkiddo a letter basically saying - Thanks but no dice.  That didn’t matter to this rally of Health Care reformers who marched on Louise Slaughter’s office to try and get her on board with true reform and delivered the petitions signed earlier.

Senator Gillibrand still favors a Public Option like “Medicare for all.”

Meanwhile  - videos from my trip to D.C. continued to be posted.  Rep Charlie Rangel talks about a single payer option.  Who do you want dictating Health Care coverage - Doctors or MBAs?  Adrian Campbell says “Everybody in, Nobody out.”

Pictures tell the story of the rally.

Then there was this bombshell - There is a suggestion to make the Public Option not so public after all. This proposal comes from the Administration.

Finally Senator Schumer draws the wrong lesson from history.

Local

ROBUTRAD - Gates Supervisor Esposito admits ROBUTRAD connection and appears to distance himself from Maggie Brooks.  Monroe County breaks up with ROBUTRAD and you can see the strategy of pinning  the entire fault on the one guy - Bob Morone.  Which will work until he flips.

The local GOP got into a pissing contest with the Legislative Dems.  Seems the GOP wants to borrow money to cover a grant that is coming from the State.  Borrow money for a grant that has already been awarded. WTF?  OH - it is the fiscally irresponsible GOP.

RenSquare - A local developer blasts Maggies RenSquare project in a scathing City News essay.

State

The circus in Albany continues - the D&C Editorial Board weighed in.  A judge ordered the Senate to do its job.  Apparently it can’t do its job.  Even though silly rules like empty seat voting were used to create a quorum.

Let’s not forget - a poll says the demographics favor Democratic gains in the Senate

Election posturing

When Rep McHugh is confirmed as Army Secretary who replaces him?  First, there is a special election with this GOP Assemblywomen eyeing the seat then the winner runs for reelection next year.

Congressman Eric Massa gets an opponent as Corning Mayor Tom Reed announces.  The Democrats blast back challenging Reed’s fiscal Conservative credentials.

The Senate Primate Challenge - who is who and is challenging Kirsten Gillibrand.

Quick Clicks

Greece Police Chief Merritt Rahn is in big trouble.

Al Franken takes a step closer to a Senate Seat while Sarah Palin takes a step closer to oblivion.

Wingnuts are back.

Gannett shrinks again.  2 weeks of forced vacation didn’t prevent additional layoffs.

Government consolidation now has a law that makes it easier.

That’s it - see you next week.
