If Monroe County Republicans had written the Declaration of Independence

“Why are we wasting our time on this? Don’t we have any personal dirt on King George we can leak?”
“Don’t tell the Democrats we’re doing this. They can read about it in the newspaper. If they say anything about it, we’ll accuse them of politicizing the process.”
“All men are created equal? Well, okay, leave it in for now… just don’t say anything about domestic partners or equal marriage. We can stall on that one for another 232 years.”
“Okay, we’ll announce this at 11 AM and approve it at 2 PM. Nice work, everybody!”
“Anybody seen Bob Morone? My break wall is crumbling.”
“Okay gentlemen, the document is ready. Maggie says to sign it now and read it later.”
“We need a clause giving Republicans unlimited and permanent control over everything.”
“Be sure to mention Jesus Christ our Savior in there someplace. We don’t want any doubt in the future about whether America was founded as a Christian nation.”
“I thought this was supposed to be the one with ‘Four score and seven years ago,’ but now I don’t see it in there.”
“Does it say anything about the Public Defender or MCC President?”
“Someday they will build Renaissance Square to honor our accomplishments here today.”

Democrats are no better when it comes to the Constitution. The bedrock principle is that we have a limited government that protects people from injury by others and allows people the quiet enjoyment of their own property and doesn’t steal the fruits of their labor. In other words, FREEDOM to live their lives as they see fit.
Thomas Jefferson put it a bit more eloquently, “a wise and frugal Government, which shall restrain men from injuring one another, shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned. This is the sum of good government.”
Both the Republican and Democratic parties have devolved farm from freedom and advocate theft and nanny statism.
I have to agree with Mike here. The democrats do not always have a stellar record in defending our freedoms. Obama is not stepping up to the plate either. In recent weeks he has employed Bush era arguments for secrecy and executive privilege. Broken promises
You’re both right. And hopefully, someday, people will learn. It’s not the party - it’s the quality of the people who represent us that makes all the difference. Ask questions, attend meetings, and when you don’t like what you see, vote them out. Replace them with someone new who you can give the same litmus test to. And when that doesn’t work, vote them out. Eventually you will be the only ones left to run. And then we will all have to hold you to the same test.
The system is broken. Citizens must fix it. We can start by making it illegal for attorneys, doctors and other licensed “professionals” to run for office. It’s a direct conflict of interest. Second, one, and only one job per person. No one person holds the baskets AND gets all the eggs put in it. Third, term limits. Fourth, campaign reform.
See, now isn’t that easy?
