Breaking: Sarah Palin to resign as Alaska’s governor

Via CNN

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Gov. Sarah Palin announced Friday that she will step down as Alaska’s chief executive by the end of the month. She will not seek election to a second gubernatorial term in 2010.

[snip]

“People who know me know that besides faith and family, nothing’s more important to me than our beloved Alaska,” Palin said at an announcement from her home in Wasilla. “Serving her people is the greatest honor I could imagine.”

OK - then why?

A Republican source close to her political team told CNN’s John King that it was a “calculation” she made that “it was time to move on.” The governor’s “book deal and other issues” were “causing a lot of friction” in her home state, the source said, adding that he believes she is “mapping out a path to 2012.”

Check these 10 reasons why.

So which rising GOP star should be her running mate?

Scheduling a planned announcement late Friday on a holiday weekend… Why wouldn’t she want to get maximum coverage? News dump?

If anything, this should be seen as her intention NOT to enter the presidential race. Keep in mind, we have three and a half years until the next presidential election. That’s an eternity in politics and she’s already very damaged goods even amongst the GOP base. You don’t try to look presidential by resigning the governorship only two years into your first term and making the announcement on a Friday evening before a holiday. Her years as an elected official are over and she knows it.

Or perhaps she, like RFK and HRC, wants to carpetbag over and run for senator (or in her case, governor) in NY. ;-)

Didn’t she get maximum coverage?? I’m at my parents and Palin is either tied with Michael Jackson or a very close second for coverage.

And what a mess she has created for herself.

She talks about Alaska not having politics as usual with her as governor and yet in the same gasping breath, she implies there is no way for herself to be anything but a typical lame duck governor during her remaining time. Why the heck doesn’t she stay and prove to everyone she is the great leader some, including herself, believe her to be?

The comment about the world needing more kids like Trig is just a little beyond bizarre. I get what she was trying to say, but just about any other way of saying it would have been better and much more appropriate.

Stick a fork in her…she’s done!
