Massa Gets a Challenger
Corning Mayor Tom Reed will run against Congressman Eric Massa in 2010. Reed is expected to announce his candidacy today in Pittsford.
The D&C has a little more
Corning Mayor Tom Reed, a Republican, is expected to announce his candidacy today in Pittsford, 16 months before the 2010 election.
[snip]
Rochester businessman Arnold Rothschild said Reed will talk about his congressional plans today.
Rothschild’s Normal Communications put out a news release indicating Reed will appear in Pittsford, Corning and Olean today to talk about his plans.
Interesting choice of Normal Communications - as a PR focal point - best I can tell they are an outdoor marketing firm - I don’t see political campaigns as one of their core business activities.
There is some good analysis/opinion over at the Fighting 29th with the puts and takes leading up to Reed’s announcement.

Rothschild has done a ton of local elections…Lindley Supreme Court upset, 5 or 6 other Judgeship elections…doing the Sheriff race and Ken Fisher for Supreme Court, and DeMarco for County Court this cycle. He has done a lot of elections quietly.
Too soon. Burned out. Don’t want to hear about it. Not ready to think about 2010. Put off by requests for money already.
MAKE IT STOP!
Arnie Rothschild is the Chair of the Rochester Broadway Theater League, and part of the fundraising team led by accountant Tom Bonadio for Maggie Brooks’ Renaissance Center. Another case of the GOP desperately trying to keep the trough full for their annointed contributors.
Also, the Rochester Business Journal daily e-update had some additional information on Eric Massa’s opponent, including the interesting tid bit that his opponent started his legal career at the Rochester law firm Gallo & Iacovangelo, no stranger to GOP controversies in Monroe County.

AR is also president of Normal Communications which does quite a bit of business for Monroe Repubs.
While it probably makes no sense to respond to blogs…I want to do so. I am the Chairman of RBTL…so, raising money for the theatre makes sense. I do have contracts to sell ads on buses and in the airport…and I pay the authorities a tremendous amount of money in guarantees to be able to do so. I also sell ads on buses and airports in Rochester, Buffalo, Syracuse, Utica, Rome, Westchester, and Ithaca. I spent my entire career in the media business including WHAM, WVOR,WPXY,WHTK here, so, out of home media is a logical business.
I also do election work…including having done it for Democrats. I also serve on the Cultural District Commission…and worked to save the Fast Ferry (pro bono). So…I think I am more than a Republican (which I am)…I am proud to be a Rochesterian who works for his community!
