Public Access TV going under for 3rd Time tonight in Greece
The final chapter in the saga of the Edu-cable Public Access TV Channel may be written tonight, when the Greece Town Board adds its “no” vote to those of Gates and Chili.
For almost two years, John Auberger has been refusing to hold public hearings or invite public comment on what residents of Greece want on their public access channel. On Tuesday evening, the new bare-bones service he chose without your input will be approved.
It’s probably a done deal, but if enough people show up to express their displeasure… who knows?

There were many speakers at he town board meeting last night all in favor of the current public access operations. Many more were in the audience. WE spoke for about an hour. pointing out the unresponsive character of town government ( I don’t why sbr hasn’t posted on teh article in the post on this topic a while back)
WE spoke for an hour. Many asked for hearings or to table the matter or for some public discussion with town leaders None of course was even thought of by our rubber stamp town board.
Instead they moved the item out of order basically to insult us and them passed it. WE showed our objection vocally and kept that going during town business. Video to follow. it was a prime example of the autocratic and undemocratic character of the Greece Town board.
SBR is way to negative about the future of public access no one is out for the count. Nor would we give up or go away. To the contrary.
Keep in mind that TW does not have any contract with the towns and must do this as “last resort” it can change anytime for better or worse. There is no date for this no plans that I know of.
I didn’t get to the meeting but I spoke to some who did and read some accounts on the SCATS blog.
It look like the Greece town board already low on the democratic accountability scale hit a new low.
I heard Greece Democrats were out. Good work!!. But this need s broader support by the county leadership and by other democratic leaders. Public communications is a progressive cause we need to stand up and support. No offense to you internet geeks which might include even me, but we need to defend our rights on all public media.
I’ve lived in greece for quite a few years now.I am getting fed up with the arrogance and lack of accountability of our town government. I ‘ve enjoyed the programing over the years and really fear the political interference that will no doubt ensue.
I owuld lkie to see this meeting video. Will it be posted anywhere?.
IT seems like Time Warner is on the prowl to eliminate any public obligations invloved with cable service. Then there are the caps, questions of net netrality etc.
DW is correct. Let’s rally to defned our public media
Following on Rocco’s post somehow appended to a 2008 item:
As I stated in the D and C I do not think it coincidental that action is being taken to severely limit public access at a time when the merde is hitting the fan.
