NYS Senate may have enough votes for same-sex marriage bill to pass (and, look, a surprise proponent!)

Senator Tom Duane, the bill’s biggest supporter believes that, when the bill is brought to the floor, there will be enough votes-Democratic and Republican- to get this bill passed.

ALBANY—With three weeks and a day left in the legislative session, advocates are once again pushing for a State Senate vote on same-sex marriage. State Senator Tom Duane, the bill’s main sponsor in the chamber, said he was completely “confident,” but in a back-and-forth with reporters, dodged specifics.

“I don’t want to seem overconfident, but I’m confident it’s coming to the floor, I’m confident it’s going to win, I’m confident we’re going to have the vast majority of Democratic votes and several Republican votes as well,” Duane said.

And then, coming from the dark-side:

With a national figure of this stature endorsing it at the state level, how can we fail? Maybe this is just the impetus that Jim Alesi needs to lend his support to the cause.  Maybe he can chew gum and vote at the same time.
