Massa opposes cut in funding for hydrogen fuel cell technology
Fighting 29th has the whole press release, but it looks like the president’s energy plan includes cutting funding for hydrogen fuel cell technology by 60%. That is very bad news for green jobs in our area. Eric will be opposing this cut, which currently appears to be a make or break for our congressman’s support of the plan. In his own words:
“I cannot accept that Washington is willing to bailout Wall Street to the tune of billions of dollars, but not step up and invest in long-term energy solutions such as zero emission hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.”
“I cannot promise victory on this issue, but I will be reaching out to other members of Congress to build a coalition to restore this critical clean hydrogen fuel cell funding.”
“Right here in Western New York, General Motors has built one of the most impressive, 21st century green technology centers, and we’re not going to let it slip away without a fight. The future of green energy is being built right here on American soil with American workers.”
“If gutting hydrogen fuel cell technology is going to be part of our national energy policy, then I will have a hard time supporting it.”

If the administration wants to cut hydrogen fuel cell technology they might have a good reason, but I damn well want to know what it is. If it helps keep General Motors alive, if it keeps the people working who manufacture cars which are environmentally clean and which people want to buy, there would have to be some severe problem involved which would make it undesirable to cause me to support or accept a move to cut the project. It’s up to the people who want to cut the programme to persuade us.
I now live in Pine Bush, NY, in Ulster County, but I shall be moving to the Rochester area sometime in June.
