That’s too bad, but there is some good news from the hinterlands: the incumbent Democratic trustees of the Village of Warsaw, Wyoming County, (Cindy Appleton and Joe Robinson) were re-elected by a roughly 2:1 margin. (See http://glowdemocrats.blogspot.com/2009/03/huzzah.html for the raw numbers).

The other piece of good news comes from the Village of Corfu in Genesee County. It turns out only one third of the voters there would rather vote for an alleged murderer than a Republican! But a Democratic trustee and mayor were elected.

The RNews site does not give party affiliations for these races, which is kind of annoying. Anyone know where we can see detailed results with party affiliations?

On a happier note, I’m glad to see Democrats at least making some competitive races in these rural and suburban districts. It gives me some hope that we might actually be able to get some Democrats elected in Greece this fall.

Looks like my snarky comment above about Corfu really obscures what a good result Democrats had in that Genesee County Village (http://thedailynewsonline.com/articles/2009/03/19/news/5291588.txt). The Democratic mayor, Todd Skeet, beat his dubious rival 109 to 47. But the Trustee and Justice races are also revealing. The incumbent Trustees, Albert Graham, Jr., and Ralph Peterson, were each reelected, Graham with 97 votes and Peterson with 138. But Peterson was cross-endorsed by both the Democrats and Republicans, yet he won 84 votes on the Democratic line and only 54 on the Republican. (The Republican Trustee candidate, Kenneth Lauer, received 56 votes.) Similarly, the incumbent Village Justice, Robert Alexander, ran on both line A and line B (he was unopposed). Again, his Democratic total from line A handily (85) beat his line B Republican total (62).

That’s a very good result for Democrats in Genesee County. Congratulations.

Since there were 2 seats open, I’d be curious to know how many people who voted for the lone Dem also voted for one of the Republicans. Voting only for the Dem might have made a difference. What a shame.
