Brooks Calls Money She Already Had For RenSquare “New” - Updated
Jeremy Moule at City Paper calls Maggie Brooks on the BS , nicely:
Renaissance Square leaders gathered today to announce the addition of $9.5 million in funding for the project. But it turns out that wasn’t too new, the county has mentioned several times that this money - a mix of state and county funds - had been marked for the project.
Apparently it was a big presser where they moved up the funding thermometer and all that. A little disingenuous, if you ask me. Or desperate.
Update : A friend suggests that although this money has been (as Maggie Brooks & co previously announced) in Paterson’s budget, it may not make it through the budget cutting that will happen as the budget goes through the legislature. So Brooks is essentially trying to play a game of political chicken with the state leg for that money.
This has to be quite a quandary for conservatives in Maggie’s court. They’re likely against having the state’s wealthy pay their fair share to support the state, but they don’t want cuts to the budget when it benefits them.
Live by the sword, die by the sword.

It is fascinating to watching the two fast-moving and powerful trains of Maggie Brooks and Congresswoman Slaughter heading at each other at breakneck speed. I wonder who in the end will win? They seem to have a healthy degree of disrespect for each other and their ideas that it will be quite a fireworks show until this is all said and done.
My money is on locomotive Louise. Don’t mess with success Maggie!
