Brighton Development update

With Medley Centre overshadowing the other development projects - City News picked up this story about the Reserve development in Brighton.  The environmental report has been submitted for the project.  A Project that expects to build 337 units (housing units - a mix of houses, apartments, condos - along the Erie Canal.

Looks like the developer (Costello) is not meeting his agreements.  See, he requires zoning changes to make this project a reality

Costello needs the town to allow higher densities and to grant height variances.

In return for the zoning changes, Costello would build a boat launch on the canal, make improvements to the Erie Canal trail, and make other parks improvements - a list that is smaller than what town officials expected.

Another sticking point: the project does not include affordable housing.

No affordable housing?  The units are projected to list 275K to 600K.   Remember this was originally projected to be a gated community.  Councilman Ray Tierney says it best

“The Comprehensive Plan is very clear that they want, in any development, some affordable housing component,”

Let’s see what happens next.
