I’ll start. People that say that government has no role or usefulness are like old-school husbands that assume the Magic Kitchen Elves magically prepare their dinner and clean the kitchen afterwards (as opposed to their wives). Discuss.

Ronald Reagan felt that the best government is the least government. It took 200 years for our dederal debt to a reach one trillion, then it doubled during Reagan’s term. After 12 years of tidying up under HW and Bill Clinton and Newt Gingrich, W swept into town with the same “small government / low tax” mantra, and… well, you know the rest.
Bottom line: Government is not going away. It provides essential services which benefit everybody. We need to be smart with it, and not go overboard overspending. We also need to pay for it by passing the hat to everybody. Until the Magic Kitchen Elf is perfected, we’ll continue to pay for government with taxes and for household help with…. uh, I think I’ve said enough.
I have been hearing more and more about Paterson’s collapse via national websites and political blogs. Poll after poll shows him winning 20-30% in a Democratic Primary against Cuomo, and even losing to Rudy Giuliani in a general election.
I liked Paterson when he first assumed the office. But something has happened since then, and no one in the state, not even liberal Democrats, support him anymore. I am starting to believe that if Democrats want to solidify the gains of 2008 with the 2010 elections, David Paterson cannot be anywhere on that ballot.
Given the way he went into the office, I’ve kind of wondered if he even wants to be Governor next time around.
How bad is the economy???
