Wednesday Wingnut Watch
Here’s what the far-right wingnuts are breathlessly telling themselves this week.
The liberal Obama White House is stealing the census so they can, well, uh, you know… we aren’t exactly sure, but we know it’s bad! A proposed change, making the Census Bureau an independent agency reporting directly to the White House, has conservatives smelling a rat.
Rep. Marsha Blackburn:
“I’m deeply concerned” about “the White House controlling the day-to-day operations of the Census Bureau,” Blackburn told FOXNews.com. Blackburn said Obama’s plan “may jeopardize the important and nonpartisan work product of a sensitive administrative agency, and potentially disrupt completion of a competent, reliable 2010 census.”
From the editorial page of the Wall Street Journal:
Anything that threatens the integrity of the Census has profound implications. Not only is it the basis for congressional redistricting, it provides the raw data by which government spending is allocated on everything from roads to schools. The Bureau of Labor Statistics also uses the Census to prepare the economic data that so much of business relies upon.
My personal favorite, from conservative blogger Jennfier Rubin:
Had this stunt been attempted during the Bush years one certainly would have heard a hue and cry from good government groups, the media, and academics. We no doubt would have heard a chorus of opposition: “The professional public servants are being shunted aside!”
Oh, yeah, the Bush years… politicizing professional public servants… why didn’t the conservatives warn us about THESE guys?

The Obama scandals are breaking wide open. Thermostat-gate became Shirt Sleeve-gate. Last week, of course, Michele Malkin went nuts because the Oval Office thermostat was set too high. Well, one thing led to another, and well, when it gets warm, men remove their suit jackets in the office. At a time like this, we need to hear sage advice from fashion expert and former chief-of-staff Andrew Card:
Former George W. Bush Chief of Staff Andrew Card says the Obama dress code is way too laid back.
“There should be a dress code of respect,” Card tells INSIDE EDITION. “I wish that he would wear a suit coat and tie.”
Card is the first member of the Bush administration to bash Obama, and he’s going after him for forgoing a coat and tie.
“The Oval Office symbolizes…the Constitution, the hopes and dreams, and I’m going to say democracy. And when you have a dress code in the Supreme Court and a dress code on the floor of the Senate, floor of the House, I think it’s appropriate to have an expectation that there will be a dress code that respects the office of the President.”
Card continued, “I don’t criticize Obama for his appearance, I do expect him to send the message that people who are going to be in the Oval Office should treat the office with the respect that it has earned over history.”
Thank you, Andrew Card. And now, Ladies and Gentlemen, for your consideration and entertainment, this photo of former President George W. Bush in the Oval Office:

Our own Senator Chuck Schumer says we don’t care about a little pork, and, um, it’s true. Most of us don’t care. This snippet drove them them crazy yesterday at conservative sites such as Michele Malkin and Michael Savage. Wow, Senator actually said OUT LOUD that there’s pork in the stimulus bill, and that most people don’t care.
Except, gee, guess, what…. he actually said a little more than what is shown in the video. Here’s a fuller transcript of the senator’s comments:
AND LET ME SAY THIS TO ALL OF THE CHATTERING CLASS THAT SO MUCH FOCUSES ON THOSE LITTLE, TINY, YES, PORKY AMENDMENTS, THE AMERICAN PEOPLE REALLY DON’T CARE. THE AMERICAN PEOPLE CARE FAR MORE THAT THERE’S A PROPOSAL IN THE BILL, THIS ONE I PUSHED, THAT GIVES A $2,500 CREDIT TO FAMILIES WHO PAY TUITION TO PUT THEIR KIDS THROUGH COLLEGE. GREAT RELIEF. THEY CARE FAR MORE ABOUT THAT THAN ABOUT SOME SMALL PROVISION IN THE BILL THAT SHOULDN’T BE THERE. BECAUSE THE TAX RELIEF FROM TUITION COSTS THAT THEY’RE GOING TO GET MEANS FAR MORE TO THEM. THEY CARE MORE ABOUT A PROVISION THAT KEEPS THE TEACHERS IN THEIR SCHOOLS.
If you come across any great wingnuttery, please send it along so I can share it with everybody in the RT community. sbr@rochesterturning.com

Your link about Michael Savage goes directly to the you tube video clip. There’s no commentary from Savage. I wouldn’t doubt he had something to say about it but if this is the most wing nuttery thing you can find coming out of his mouth during 15 hours of radio broadcasting a week, you’re not looking very hard.
I would think this would be a week of rejoicing. Huffington Post has been recognized as a legitimate news source apparently as they are now have credentials to cover White House Press Briefings.
Yer Doodness, thanks fer keepin me honest, man. Yer right, Dood, I’m not workin very hard! Savage had a killer one-liner but the link skips over it and dumps ya right into youtube. Bummer. At times like this, I’m counting on you to accelerate your own nuttery-ness to help cover for me. Gimme sumthin good to get everybody going!
