More Thoughts on the Bruno Indictment

Piling on to student_bee’s post from Friday, via WHAM13:

Former New York state Senate leader Joseph Bruno has been indicted on federal corruption charges.

The Republican, who retired from the Legislature in July after more than a dozen years leading the Senate, was charged in an eight-count indictment by the U.S. attorney for the Northern District of New York.

The indictment says Bruno used his office to defraud the people of New York from 1993 through at least 2006.

Good thing the US Attorney waited until after the 2008 NY Senate elections to announce this, even though the FBI investigation’s been going on since at least December 2006.  Otherwise it might have affected NY Senate races involving Bruno supporters like Joe Robach who were a mere 2% away from losing their jobs.

Robach’s history of voting with Bruno, then being rewarded handsomely for it, may have helped those 2% make up their minds a different way on election day.
