Wednesday Wingnut Watch

Ready for some fun? Let’s see what the far-right wingnuts are breathlessly telling themselves this week.

INAUGURATION. I figured the web would be chock-full of post-inaugural right-wing nuttery and snarkiness … but not so. I reviewed dozens of conservative sites, and found most commentators to be guardedly optimistic and gracious to the new president. There were some hard-nosed critiques of the rhetoric, and some conservative stalwarts who laid out their concerns regarding the Obama presidency, but everything seemed thoughtful and nothing was over-the-top crazy. Golly gee, can it be that EVERYBODY loves President Obama? Of course not. Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you Rush Limbaugh, who wants President Obama to fail.

I disagree fervently with the people on our side of the aisle who have caved and who say, “Well, I hope he succeeds. We’ve got to give him a chance.” Why? They didn’t give Bush a chance in 2000. Before he was inaugurated the search-and-destroy mission had begun. I’m not talking about search-and-destroy, but I’ve been listening to Barack Obama for a year-and-a-half. I know what his politics are. I know what his plans are, as he has stated them. I don’t want them to succeed…

… Look, what he’s talking about is the absorption of as much of the private sector by the US government as possible, from the banking business, to the mortgage industry, the automobile business, to health care. I do not want the government in charge of all of these things. I don’t want this to work…

… I hope he fails.

More Rush inaugural gems… the transcript of to his live snarkfestduring President Obama’s Inaugural Address, his in-depth analysis of the speech as “uninspiring generic buzzkill,” and his rant on Dianne Feinstein’s diction.

BABY-KILLING DOUGHNUTS.Krispy Kreme came up with a cute promotion for Inauguration Day: “honoring American’s sense of pride and freedom of choice on Inauguration Day, by offering a free doughnut of choice to every customer on this historic day, Jan. 20.”  Judie Brown of American Life League saw through it and called out Kripy Kreme for what they really are, a choice-loving, pro-abortion, uh, doughnut bakery.

The unfortunate reality of a post Roe v. Wade America is that “choice” is synonymous with abortion access and celebration of ‘freedom of choice’ is a tacit endorsement of abortion rights on demand.

President-elect Barack Obama promises to be the most virulently pro-abortion president in history.  Millions more children will be endangered by his radical abortion agenda.

Celebrating his inauguration with “Freedom of Choice” doughnuts – only two days before the anniversary of the Supreme Court decision to decriminalize abortion – is not only extremely tacky, it’s disrespectful and insensitive and makes a mockery of a national tragedy.

ERIC MASSA.Our freshman congressman took some internet ribbing from right-wing bloggers who were determined not to get it and tried to paint him as a hypocritefor demonstrating that hydrogen-powered car on his trip to Washington last week. If you’ll recall, there is no refueling station along the route, so Massa drove two of the cars, to demonstrate the technology and the need to develop infrastructure to support it. Afterwards, the cars were towed back.

So Massa wasted several times the amount of energy he needed for 300-mile trip . . . in order to make a point about the importance of conservation and alternative energy. Sadly, Rep. Massa’s capacity for theater and obliviousness to reason likely means he’s on his way to a very successful career in politics.

If you come across any wingnuttery, let me know so I can share it with our readers! sbr@rochesterturning.com
