Maffei on House Judiciary Committee
Congressman Dan Maffei was appointed to the House Judiciary Committee.
Via a Maffei Press release…
The scope of jurisdiction on the committee is very broad: issues of homeland security and terrorism, border and immigration issues, patents and intellectual property, and civil liberties all fall under the Judiciary Committee.
“The scope of issues the Judiciary Committee is responsible for is sobering and impressive. I look forward to working with Chairman Conyers and the rest of my colleagues to face the complex and serious nature of the work before this committee,” said Congressman Dan Maffei.
So looks like the folks representing Rochester shake out to this. In alphabetical order…
Lee (R) NY-26)
- Financial Services
Maffei (D) NY-25)
- Financial Services
- Judiciary
Massa (D) NY-29)
- Armed Services Committee
- Agriculture
Slaughter (D) NY-28)
- House Rules Committee (Chairwomen)
I’ll update the list if anything changes -

Can anybody help with this question? It was my understanding that membership on the Financial Services Committee meant a Congressperson could not serve on any other committee. But it seems Maffei is on Financial Services and Judiciary. Is Maffei the exception, or Lee?
Well, from Lee’s Website

As this Emanuel Cleaver (MO-5) Press release indicates there needs to be a special waiver to serve on an other committee.

So Maffei rates a special waiver.
Thanks. That suggests Maffei has serious juice, doesn’t it?
yes it does - the question, of course, is did Lee try to get an addition assignment which I’m sure is unlikely given his party’s minority status and the “exclusive” Financial Services committee was involved.
