Armed Services Forces sub committee appointments for Massa

Congressman Massa was just announced to be on the Subcommittee on Air and Land Forces and the Subcommittee on Seapower and Expeditionary Forces of the Armed Services committee

Via Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC - On Wednesday night, the House Armed Services Committee announced its Democratic Subcommittee appointments. In this announcement, Congressman Eric Massa was named as a member of the Subcommittee on Air and Land Forces and the Subcommittee on Seapower and Expeditionary Forces.

As I recall this is what he requested.  Good for him.

Not to take a shot at Eric, but shouldn’t he, like all our upstate congressmen, be focusing on the Rochester area and economic growth? Not a lot of military bases around here and not a lot of military bases going to be here. While he may become powerful on this committee one day, he will not be able to direct funds to us and that is the bottomline.

Fair enough but recall Eric is also on the Agricultural Committee (big rural district) as well as part of the the upstate NY caucus headed by Louise Slaughter.

I think looking at the whole thing and all the assignments - this helps. It helps Maffei that a member of the upstate Caucus is on the committee (Airbase in Syracuse). It helps Slaughter that Harris is in her district (Military contractor), it helps that the VA hospitals are in Eric’s district (imagine ensuring Veterans are factored in before a war not after). I’m sure there is more those examples are just off the top of my head.

bottom line I don’t think this hurts. If the upstate congress folks work together this is OK. Of course this also includes Chris Lee who is part of the caucus.
