Maggie Brooks’ Homophobic Court Battle Results In More Rights For Gays

What did that one Simpsons character always say?  Something like “Ha, ha“:

Finger Lakes Community Collegehas granted health benefits to the spouse of an associate professor, based on a court decision in Monroe County recognizing same-sex marriage.

We reported previously that Brooks’ Homophobic Grandstanding Court Appeal Spectacular already resulted in NY State insurance companies being directed to treat same-sex marriages the same as hetero marriages.

Who knew that Brooks’ court battle against the gays would really be a rear-guard action that keeps giving gays more rights?  There’s something very ironic, and satisfying, about this whole thing.

Brooks’ fundamentalist and/or gay-queasy base must be frustrated that her political positioning has backfired so amazingly.

Equal rights is a progressive value.

Every time something like this happens, I can’t help myself — I take a very smug satisfaction in knowing that Maggie Brooks and the Monroe County Republican Party have done more to advance LGBT rights in this state than anyone else.
