Medley Centre comments due by Monday…
Where and to whom the article doesn’t really say exactly - but the Irondequoit Town board is looking for comments. The Public comment period has been on going for about a month and you can find Irondequoit Town board phone numbers here.
“Input from the public helps us to make sure that the (Town) Board takes a hard look at all the things that might impact the project,” said Supervisor Mary Ellen Heyman.
Developers are asking the Irondequoit Town Board to create a new Tourism and Resort Redevelopment District to allow the project to be built. Town Board members in December accepted a Supplemental Draft Environmental Impact Statement — covering issues such as traffic, drainage and parking — which is available for review.
The town board will take a hard look. Now before I go on - I’m not against development, I’m against unnecessary government giveaways in the the form of COMIDA and such to companies that do not need these breaks. COMIDA breaks amount to 3% of the project and those costs will be passed on to the Monroe County taxpayer - that is just the various tax exemptions. Then there are the Pilot programs - payment in lieu of taxes.
So comments are due on Monday. Commenter Irondequoitian makes this comment in the D&C article
How can the public comment intelligently on this project when we don’t know the extent of the property tax breaks that are being considered? The understanding we have so far is that there is a 30-year tax abatement agreement negotiated that will require the developer to pay only a tiny fraction of the taxes that would be assessed to a $260 million development.
Where is the PILOT agreement?
I’m guessing there will be additional public comment prior to a final vote but they have a point.
