Massa and Hydrogen Fuel
Well, we already told you that Congressman-elect Massa was planning to travel to Washington in a Hydrogen powered car. Rotten has a nice post with links to WTEM, WXXI and News 10 out of Syracuse. Did anyone else, media wise, cover this activity? Here is another pic (via Michael Parks) part of the same batch sent to the press.

This is a cool technology forged in New York.
Per Massa:
“I’m here to be the voice of the families of New York’s 29th Congressional District and help take this country in a better direction,” said Congressman-Elect Eric Massa. “Taking this GM Electric Fuel Cell car to Washington reflects all that I will stand for as your Representative - Creating good jobs in Western New York, breaking our addiction to foreign oil, taking meaningful steps toward addressing global warming, and getting our economy back on the road to success. I look forward to being sworn into office on Tuesday so we can get to work.”
Anyway, GM is getting, if you pardon the pun, good mileage out of this event. Here is hoping this technology is part of the solution that does the trick, and doesn’t demand more resources to produce it than the energy it saves (like Ethanol).
I couldn’t help but wonder earlier in the day as I walked through the halls of the National Museum of American History (and through the GM sponsored exhibit, America on the Move) how this technology or any non-gasoline technology will ultimately change our driving habits.
Want a look back at how things used to be? Check out the National Museum of American History on-line exhibit. I’m sure it will make you wonder as well.
Re my ethanol comment above - I’m taking about corn-based ethanol requiring vast sums of water, fertilizer, and such to grow corn– only to ultimately get 1.3 units of energy for each unit of energy put in. Of course raising food costs, soil contamination, and water shortages are not factored here, which in my opinion, makes ethanol an even worse solution.
