Goodbye for now

Well, I’m off to Washington, DC where I am transferring to George Washington University for the Spring 2009 semester. I will be an international relations major with a minor in political science. This will be my last post for a while, so I wanted to thank everyone at RT who have done so many great things for me over these past six months.

First to btp: thank you for hiring me and showing me the ropes. You’re one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met, and the letter of recommendation you sent in for me was doubtless a major reason for my acceptance at GWU. Your knowledge of the local political scene is immense and it was very useful to chat with you whenever I hit a writing roadblock, which happened fairly often. I wish the best of luck to you and your wonderful family in all of your future endeavors.

Ladkiddo, thank you for your continual encouragement. Working for RT wasn’t always easy, but whenever I was doing something with you, I was always having a good time. Whenever there was a bad day, I knew I could count on you to give me a sincere and unsolicited compliment. Our friendship has meant so much to me personally, and I can’t wait to hang out again when I’m back in town this summer.

Stlo7, if RT was a boat, you’d be the rudder. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve needed your help and you were always there to lend an experienced hand. You don’t tolerate b.s. from anybody (even campaign managers for state senate candidate). We at RT refuse to drink the Koolaid and you’re living proof of it. I went through a very rough patch last summer, and your understanding meant a lot to me. Thanks for all the practical things too like carpooling to the Massa rally in Canandaigua and letting me borrow your camera so many times. You and your wife have been so kind to me over the past few months and I will always remember that.

Thanks especially to the readers and commenters on RT. You always let me know what you think, especially when we disagree. But then again, if we’re supposed to agree 100% of the time, we’d be Republicans. Thank you for the constructive criticism, and even the not-so-constructive criticism.

It’s been an amazing experience writing for RochesterTurning, especially at this time in our nation’s history. I’ll always cherish the memories I have from working at RT.

Once I’m settled in, I plan to write occasionally about things happening in DC that have a direct impact on Rochester and Monroe County. So this isn’t a permanent goodbye, it’s just goodbye for now.

“For all those whose cares have been our concern: the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die.”

- Senator Ted Kennedy

Wow. You really earned the $5 I offered you to say something nice about RT. Seriously, though, I didn’t expect this from your goodbye post, but I sure do welcome it.

And, dude, thank you for your contributions & critical eye during some very busy and tight times here at RT. You’ve got a great mind & personality and I’m psyched to see what you’re going to do in the future.

Best of luck Airbare! I lived and-and-around DC for years. It’s exhilarating and exasperating….you’re gonna love it.

Definitely: send me an e-mail and we can meet up. I don’t know anyone down there, so it would be a welcome sight to see a familiar face.
