Massa visits Honeoye Falls GM plant, where the future of clean transportation begins

Massa visited the HF plant this week to tour the facility where fuel cell technology is being created:

HONEOYE FALLS, N.Y. – Congressman-elect Eric Massa sat down with the engineers that are developing General Motors’ fuel cell vehicles in Honeoye Falls. Massa believes this technology is crucial to the survivals [sic] of the U.S. auto industry and the jobs it will create.

“We have some 400 here that will expand into hundreds of thousands as we revolutionize the American automobile industry,” Massa said. “This is not a pie in the sky promise. This is a certainty withheld only by political will. I have the political will. It’s up to me to take that message to Washington.”

GM has a fleet of 100 fuel cell vehicles that are being test driven in different markets around the country. Those cars have fourth generation fuel cells. Work continues in Honeoye Falls to make the fuel cell less expensive, smaller and more durable.

“The vehicle technology that we’re working on here is coming along very, very well. And I think in the next generation, as we go forward over the next four or five years, that will be able to go into a production vehicle engineering process and be ready to come to market,” said Gary Stottler.

And since we’re talking about the auto industry, John McElroy has decided to set the nation straight on the realities of the auto industry. From Free Republic:

Strangely, the media are devoting far more attention to the $34 billion bridge loan auto makers are requesting than the $700 billion bailout of the financial industry. How does that make us a better informed citizenry?

I know that I’ve been feeling the same way, but didn’t have the facts to argue this or the time to pursue the information I needed, so thank you to Mr. McElroy:

There always are two sides to every argument, but this discussion shows how much misinformation, misperception and wrong-headed “facts” are being bandied about. Let me debunk the five most popular myths I keep hearing.

He addresses desirability, quality, fuel economy, competitiveness, and “greed” of the auto workers. So check it out and stop listening to Rush. Main St needs our help, apparently, much more than Wall St. Funding the cutting edge technologies of fuel cell innovation is imperative in keeping domestic industry headed in the right direction. Funding the auto makers is imperative in keeping industry domestic.

(By the way-Eric wants to drive a GM fuel cell car to the capitol building for his swearing in next month. Keeping it local-that’s how we roll!)
