In Case You Missed It…

Welcome to this weeks In Case you missed it or can I get a bail out too edition. No I’m not taking about the auto Industry or the financial industry. I’m taking about, well you will get the idea,

National

Now that Hillary Clinton will be our next Secretary of State - Who to fill those New York Senate shoes. How about Caroline Kennedy? Works for Me.

State

The GOP is still fighting tooth and nail to hold the SD-11 seat. They challenged student voters in a frivolous effort to disenfranchise some college students. It didn’t work.

The Gang of Three spawned the Gang of 29. Let’s see how this works out.

Local

How deep does corruption go in Monroe County? It started with the arrest of 15 county employees and could expand when discovery (the legal process) occurs. One of the arrested is the Gates GOP chairman.

Can we do a new favorability poll? Is Maggie still as popular as before? I mean it is like those stock photos of columnists - the ones that are many years old. Time marches on and waits for no one.

We analyzed the Monroe County Clerks race. The question is can Monroe Democrats win a County-wide race. Do they have what it takes to win?

Charity groups try to fill a day care funding gap. Unfortunately we are 1/9th of the way there because a law school study is more important than children.

Maybe those charity groups could help fill the County budget gap. Seems we have the same result - Maggies one shot wonders fall short as the Dems point out in a Presser.

Issues

Using tax dollars to create jobs.

We have McCain apologist and D&C community editorial board member Petrena Hayes ranting against President Elect Obama’s job creation plan. Somewhere she realizes that tax dollars are being used for infrastructure and asks these questions.

We have men and women rebuilding our roads. Would we be adding more employees where they’re not needed? Would they be government jobs?

Um, No - but it is easy to rail against national efforts - where is the focus on local issues.

Empires zones - those specific areas that provide tax incentives to create jobs? Well, guess what they don’t create Jobs and some breaks go to retail - big box retail - in many cases. Yeah, need more of that. Where is the outrage.

Then Eastview is taking about a $57 million dollar expansion. As I wrote in this post when “IDA” and the developer are both used in the the same sentence more retail tax breaks can’t be far behind.

Quick Takes

The D&C lays of a bunch of workers with cuts to the news section. What’s next.

Speaking of jobs - “Best shoring” isn’t “off shoring” except when it is.

Oops they (James Lawrence’s D&C editorial page) did it again - this time Obama and Hip Hop

Does Mayor Duffy read blogs? Hope so.

There were a couple of LTEs - One in response to Petrena Hayes’ solution to immigration and one on the Auto Bail out.

Support the Troops? There is stlo’s “whole societal cost discussion” - this time in Ontario County.
