Padavan ahead by 692 votes

With the race in the 11th state senate district drawing to a close, the Republican incumbent Frank Padavan appears at this point in time to have held on to his seat. Only 1600 paper ballots remain to be counted and at least some of these ballots are from Republican-leaning areas in Queens.

However, Democratic challenger James Gennaro has alleged that Republicans are systematically trying to disenfranchise Hispanic and Asian voters by discarding their ballots. He may bring the matter to the courts, in which case, this race may take weeks if not months to be finalized. But as of right now, it looks likely that Padavan will be returning to the State Senate for another two-year term.
