Ren Square Is Maggie Brooks’ Fast Ferry
Consider– it has all the same hallmarks: poorly planned, projected to “help the local economy” but operate at a loss, and yet dogged determination to see it through. In fact, it’s reminiscent of Sarah Palin’s key legacy while mayor of Wasilla, AK: that village’s ill-fated, underused, money-losing Rec Center/Sports Facility.
The similarities between these three are pretty interesting:

And yet we barrel on, hoping to acheive the crown jewel in Brooks’ 2010 gubernatorial bid. Wish more people could see through this latest boondoggle.

Great post, great analogy!
Hopefully we will be able to sell Ren Sq to an overseas buyer too.
Follow the money. As long as we spend millions building something, anything the contractors will do well. Who cares what the thing is. Look at the largest contributors to both the local Democratic and Repuiblican committees and you see the names of large contractors. Which is where Mark Aesch got his start. Too bad we couldn’t have just docked the Fast Ferry downtown. We could have used it to park busses in and run a casino/ theatre in the upper decks. Rochester deserves a more creative and progressive approach to transportaion and public works. This is the town of Anthony, Bausch, Carlson, Douglas, and Eastman.
Well said.
