In Case You Missed It…

Welcome to the It has only just begun edition of In Case You Missed It

It has been a tough week with tougher weeks ahead as the election honeymoon starts to subside and we come face to face with huge problems at the National, State and Local level. It is no time to be timid and frankly, it will be fine - eventually.

Let’s look back at the week that was shall we?

National

it is official, Eric Massa is the winner in NY-29th. Actually there wasn’t any doubt, he was already on the case as he attended orientation and working on Healthcare issues. Better educate yourself on HR676.

But on Friday, November 21, 2008 the race was officially over. Throughout the week (numbers are approximate), 6000 ballots were counted with Eric Massa holding a 5700 vote lead. It was all but certain but on Friday, about 11am, Randy Kuhl conceded and Eric Massa, declared victory. He held his first press conference as Congressman-elect which, of course, we live blogged.

Meanwhile, Randy can figure our if he actually owes 114K for allegedly mixing State Senate and Congressional race campaign funds. Right now he doesn’t but if the FEC report is approved, he will.

Clinton Watch - Will she or won’t she be Secretary of State. More importantly, who replaces her?

Joe Lieberman - We asked for people to call the NYS Senators but in the end, it didn’t matter, the secret ballot wasn’t even close and Joe Lieberman stayed as Chairman of Homeland Security committee and in the Democratic Caucus.

Of course, convicted felon Alaska Senator Ted Stevens - gets dumped from his Senate seat.

State

There was more talk of Alesi flipping. We raised the question just after the election when we pointed out that there was a wonderful opportunity for one of the Rochester area minority GOP Senators to be in the Majority and thus increase their stature.

NEw York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo came to Rochester. We were there and we had this video.

Local

I suppose it “technically” isn’t’ a money pit until it is built but RenSquare has all the marks of being a money pit. Meet the $55 million dollar man who only has to raise $20 million and has a 3 year time line. This LTE sums up RenSquare rather well.

In a weird twist, Rochesterturning - this blog - apparently is blocked from County Government computers. What makes this wrong is that other local blogs - on both sides of the spectrum are not. Someone is pissed.

Quick Takes

In shocking news - well, not to those of us paying attention - Gulf War Syndrome actually exists.

The Economy - Ladkiddo has this post about the relationship between the economy and healthcare because it helps make us competitive. btp brings economic discussion to Albany. GOP fiddling as Albany burns - sounds about right because budget talks broke down among other things.

Rudy for Governor? Can’t wait to blog about that.

There was a local Prop 8 protest,

Rochesterturning interviewed Bill McKibben author of The End of Nature and more recently, Deep Economy.

The D&C websites start to crack down on their trash talkers.

The D&C get called out for giving Maggie a pass-

Finally in HUGE news buried in a Friday news dump - Maggie drops the County lawsuit seeking to decriminate against benefits for Same sex-marriage. About freaking time. Then again this lawsuit has helped move gay rights forward.

See you next week…

With regard to the D&C cracking down on the “soft hate?” I still see the biggest offenders of it posting away, hating away, and attacking anyone who differs with them.

They can write all the pretty words they want but, in the end, they’re just words with no action behind them.
