SD-56: On Duffy’s Non-Endorsement
Adding to what stlo7 said earlier, Mayor Duffy’s between a rock and a hard place. If Robach wins but the Dems flip the Senate, Robach loses much of the slush funds he’s bought love with, and the city loses money in an increasingly crappy economy. If he endorses Dollinger, and the Dems don’t flip the Senate, Dollinger’s in the minority and gets the crappy Senate minority slush funds. If he endorses Dollinger and Robach wins, he’s pissed off someone who can help with Senate funds in a crappy economy.
The only win-win situation (from a progressive viewpoint) is if he endorses Dollinger and the Dems flip the Senate. I’m sure he’s feeling the pressure to remain neutral, given the number of bad outcomes vs. the good one.
Having more Senate races at least look competitive would help make it easier for him to endorse Dollinger, but probably only a little. The strategy of GOP senators buying love in Dem-majority districts seems to have structural benefits beyond just getting interest groups on board.
Regardless, it sucks that Duffy and the city are being held to ransom like this.

That’s a good game-playing summary of Duffy’s options.
But there’s a chance that we may have a choice at some point in the not-distant future: whether to support Bob Duffy as he seeks higher office.
Reap what you sow, Mr. Mayor. Don’t assume you can expect help from committees because they are Democrats if you don’t provide assistance to the candidates that those committees put forward.
Maybe I’m still smarting from the mailer four years ago (to be fair, Duffy was not involved in that one) of “Democrats for Robach”.
Supporting the other side– especially someone like Robach– ought to have consequences.
So, let me get this straight - Robach who has made his name with Pork and has bought “love” in Rochester spreading it around. That Pork will suddenly stop if Democrat Duffy endorses Democrat Dollinger and Republican Robach wins?
There must be something else here because Mr 87% could simply say it’s politics like party people (of either party) supporting other members of their party.
I think that if the repubs keep the senate the democrats still might block some types of aid for Rochester as payback.
Wrong. It’s political prostitution, and that won’t change anytime soon. The best solution is to get out today and let everyone know to vote for Dollinger and bring true reform to Albany.
That’s called campaign reform. That’s the Dollinger difference.
