Massa and Schumer visit St John’s Meadows

Senator Schumer came to St John’s Meadows last Thursday where he strongly endorsed Eric Massa in his bid to unseat Randy Kuhl in the NY-29th. It was a packed house
From a political junkie perspective it was standard stuff but I likely this clip where Senator Schumer discussed the sacred trust and promise to our seniors with regards to Social Security and Medicare.
Earlier that day, I had the opportunity to speak to college class (literally just before this event) where we discussed among other things Social Security. A couple of 19 year olds looked at Social Security with some skepticism. Not that it was bad but they didn’t have confidence they Social Security would be there for them.
I spent a few minutes discussing the role of government, the concept of safety nets, the concept of insurance vs wealth creation or get rich quick schemes. It was refreshing to see Senator Schumer echo the the same concepts a few hours later.
Social Security and Medicare are sacred trusts and promises the United States government had made with its citizens - not just Seniors.
This dovetailed with the concept I expressed to the 19 year olds - the future will be here faster than you think - best to try to own it now rather than later.
Part of owning the future is removing from office those who want to violate these sacred trusts and privatize them. People Like Randy Kuhl.
