MC-Clerk: Hasman/Dinolfo Debate

Did anyone see the debate between Tom Hasman and incumbent clerk Dinolfo on WHAM 13? It’s an interesting example of what happens when you speak truth to power. Reader Monroe Dem has an interesting psychological take on it:

I watched the debate video on his website. She’s really a poor actor. You can see that she get agitated not only in her voice but in her demeanor and posture. My wife deals with such things all the time on her job. In fact she brought it to my attention only moments into the video, she said, “Dinolfo is hiding something serious and lying”.

She told me that Cheryl was showing the common clinical signs of someone who not only is trying to escape the truth but knows more than she is saying. My wife said its quite common in psychology patients (her forte).

What happens is a person cannot get their mind off other things they are not saying and thus get upset while trying to keep their cool. She told me had they hooked a lie detector up to her it’d be spiking considerable and to any Psychologist she was clearly displaying this distress.

Now when you think about that (which I had not my wife pointed it out and I told her to hush as I was watching) shes right!

Dinolfo said that Hasman did not know process and that in 2006 she began process to get the funding from the legislature to start working the problem. Ummm… so in 2006, 2 YEARS AGO, she goes and says, “We have social security numbers online”… I CANNOT IMAGINE the Legislature going, “Well, ok… Take two years to get them removed”.

I’ll bet what they did was make it APPEAR insignificant, JUST LIKE THEY DID WHEN THE STORY BROKE IN 2008. “Oh we have a few hundred numbers online”… Umm, 17,000+ is more than a few hundred. 17,000 is CNN news.

Notice as well that she said, “Of 17 million documents”. That again is COMPLETELY insignificant. She did NOT put it in real terms, she tried to diminish it. 17,000 .vs. 17,000,000 = 1%. Not much. But its NOT 17 MILLION thats the issue. The documents identities are not what is stolen.

When one says, “17,000+ Monroe County Residents Social Security Numbers are sitting out on the Internet waiting for thieves, illegals, terrorists to obtain easy as pie… ummm, EASIER THAN PIE” now it strikes of EMERGENCY.

So… The news story broke and it became, “Oh crap we need redaction software NOW”… Why create it in house? Again… ANOTHER excuse was given I’d guess. “We wanted to keep that work in NY!” or some such crap was given… Ummm, so we’ll outsource the intial database work to Texas but the redaction software not. Ask yourself why?

Ok, I’ll tell you why.

Because there is ALOT more under the hood thats why and THATS why she showed the pathology my wife calls common in patients who hide or are covering things.

If you bring in an outside firm they’re going to EXAMINE the problem not only to solve redaction of the files in question but they look at the entire system. My neighbor whos an information technology guy told me this one. Hasman KNOWS this already and its why he said, “A full security and integrity audit of the system would be his FIRST task when taking office” according to my neighbor.

They made the redaction software under their scope (probably outsourced to a crony firm) to make sure the rest of whats there, like… police officers records transposed making them appear as criminals does not surface. See… at a certain point the NY Government might get involved and really look at whats going on and that’d probably be Dinolfo/Brooks waterloo.

Nobody can tell me that if I was clerk, went to the legislature and said, “We potentially have thousands of citizens Social Security numbers on our website” that the legislature would say, “Take a few years to fix it”. No way.

In fact NOTHING was fixed folks. Timeline: 2006… know about em’. 2008 a news station breaks the story???? THEN all of a sudden 17,000 numbers get removed? So for 700+ days a donut sat by a phone waiting for someone to call and say, “Did you know my number was online?”… “Oh, we’ll remove it”.

They SAT on it and ONLY moved when all of a sudden a news station went, “Look at that!”. Even with that they tried minimize it, “Only a few hundred exist”… Nope. It means over two years time they had only been TOLD of a few hundred. THEY NEVER DID A THING.

A logical question would also be, “So what happened to the funding the legislature granted that for two years did nothing?”.

Whats even more outrageous is that Dinolfo tried to pin Hasman with being irresponsible. I mean, OH MY GOD! She lets this stuff sit online for two years, FINALLY a news station reports on it and she tries to blame it on him saying, “THIS IS THE WORST KIND OF POLITICIAN”.

BEG TO DIFFER CHERYL.

THE WORST KIND OF POLITICIAN IS ONE WHO LETS 17,000 PEOPLE IN HER COMMUNITY BE PROSPECTIVE VICTIMS OF HAVING THEIR IDENTITY STOLEN AND LIFE RUINED FOR MANY MANY MORE YEARS THAN YOU HAVE EVEN BEEN IN OFFICE. THEN TURNS AROUND AND MINIMIZES IT. THEN TURNS AROUND AND TRIES TO BLAME THIS OTHER POOR SLOB FOR IT!!!!

WHEN THAT DID NOT WORK SO WELL SAYS, “I INHERITED THIS PROBLEM AND I GOT THE JOB DONE”. WRONG.

TWO YEARS AGO THIS SURFACED, THE ONLY REASON THE JOB IS GETTING DONE IS BECAUSE THE COMMUNITY WAS MADE AWARE OF IT.

Prior to this, like a sidewalk being torn up and redone. Its all torn up. I threw a coupla stones in it last month, few more next month so, “Its getting done”. Ya? When by the year 2012?

My wife also said that she continually has been saying, “I rolled up my sleeves and got the job done”… She told me that its a completely staged statement also common as people try and cover things up. They in advance think out these statements and even can convince themselves of them being valid. They do not even realize that they are using them over and over and over. How many times in your daily life in interacting with people do you see this? Seldom. Among those however being pushed into not wanting to devulge something, common she tells me.

With that all said… I say lets elect Tom Hasman. Lets everyone in the community get his offices $2 from our pockets which results in alot of money… Surely enough to REALLY give us a state of the art county web site we can all use, be proud of and be sure is not going to be the complete disaster now in place.

But don’t take our word for it. Watch for yourself.

I am honored that my comment “made the headlines!”

A few further items of note that people kinda probably never took the big picture on.

These documents were probably mass fed into a scanner to put them online somehow. We’re not talking 1970 here. Identity theft has been an issue at the forefront of our society for many many years now.

So whom at the Clerks office was was unaware that 17,000 (and then some) social security numbers existed on documents?

If they knew it then they are complete snakes in the grass for ever scanning them and putting them online. If they did not know that Social Security numbers can result in identity theft then they are completely negligent PROVING beyond ANY shadow of doubt that they are in fact NOT responsible enough to be entrusted with ANY information.

If NO OTHER LESSON has been learned with credit card companies, banks on and on that have had information stolen, eBay phishing, PayPal phishing is that INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY THAT DEALS WITH PEOPLES PRIVATE INFORMATION SHOULD ONLY BE ENTRUSTED TO TRUE INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY PROFESSIONALS.

Clearly, Dinolfo and staff are not or we’d not be having this conversation now. Tom Hasman actually IS A INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY PROFESSIONAL and has real credentials to prove it.

I cant imagine the White House just picks anyone to work within its realm? Well… maybe Baby Bush might but surely no other would.

Certainly there are people more qualified than Hasman to do the job as well. But Hasman stepped up to the plate and he has the brains to do this job far far better than what we have presently.

I dont care about the “Party Politics” theme on this one.

We are talking about a critical function within our community to not only protect our private information, treat it PROPERLY and with the respect we all deserve but also to make certain that the office is used as it is supposed to be used. Someone who stands up to protect not only the citizens rights but to make sure this critical information hub in our community is not misused or abused by party politics. That IS Tom Hasman.
