Remember when Cheryl Dinolfo ran for County Legislature?
Join us for a trip down memory lane, take a bite from this apple and remember apples don’t fall far from the tree. Loyal to the core - and, guess what? She eventually became the appointed County Clerk. What am I talking about ? Well, hang on - let’s remind the audience that City News refused to endorse anyone in the clerks race where we asked the question they didn’t.
The question is, who do we want in the County Clerk’s office? A Politician like Dinolfo or a Manager like Hasman? Because like the City News article opened with:
This is a race that shouldn’t be on the ballot. County clerk is an important administrative position in which politics should have no role.
So remember back in 2001? How soon we forget. Check out this article from the D&C (May 14, 2001 you need to search at the library (my emphasis))
It’s a small section on the map, maybe five streets high and four streets across. Whatever you call it, it’s not a pretty sight.
[snip]
GOP leaders say the last-minute change had nothing to do with the fact that the little section includes the house of Joe Carey, the labor leader who wanted to challenge Ferlicca on the Democratic line.
Carey, in fact, was ready to announce his candidacy last Friday. That was before Tuesday’s Republican amendment to their district map. Before the goiter. Now Carey is in a district that already has a Democratic challenger, putting him in the position of having to run a primary or stand on the
sidelines. But wait. There’s more. Another small section of streets, one that looks like a fist, was moved from the 26th District into the neighboring 17th District in Irondequoit. It was shifted from a Republican district to one represented by a Democrat, Stephanie Aldersley.
Republicans say this had nothing to do with the fact that the section of streets includes the home of Cheryl Loria-Dinolfo, a Republican interested in the County Legislature.
[snip]
This was just political self-preservation. Move one Democratic challenger out of a GOP district, move a potential Republican challenger into a Democratic stronghold.
So loyal soldier Cheryl Dinolfo conveniently gets redistricted so she can run (ultimately loses) for Legislature. Of course, another district gets an additional Dem Challenger (Carey) to a sitting Republican.
A loyal soldier doing the party bidding with a clerk job in the future. Like Ladkiddo asked - who do we want as Clerk?
