City News -no endorsement in County Clerk’s race?

City News is taking a pass on endorsing anyone in the County Clerks race.

I’m, frankly, surprised that City Newspaper has not seen it’s way clear to endorse Tom Hasman for county clerk. I don’t understand this in view of the serious nature of private information (social security numbers) remaining on the county’s website. This is what is stated in City:

Dinolfo raised concerns for us when she mixed politics and service, jumping into the controversy over Eliot Spitzer’s plan to let undocumented immigrants have driver’s licenses. Reasonable people can disagree about the Spitzer plan, but the opposition of New York’s Republican clerks, led by Dinolfo, smacked too much of partisan politics. Dinolfo has also caused concern with her response to a serious problem: including Social Security numbers when some documents were posted online.

All that and then (my bold),

Dinolfo’s opponent, Democrat Tom Hasman, has an unusual background for this job: experience in information-technology security, records management, and administration - including several years in the White House during the Clinton administration.

Records management and administration-isn’t that what a clerk does?? This is an “unusual background”? That, to me, coupled with his experience in information- technology security, especially under these circumstances, make him the ideal candidate for this position.

As btp stated in his last post, why aren’t more journalists taking this seriously, let alone, up in arms about it?

The question is, who do we want in the County Clerk’s office? A Politician like Dinolfo or a Manager like Hasman? Because like the City News article opened with:

This is a race that shouldn’t be on the ballot. County clerk is an important administrative position in which politics should have no role.

Seems the choice is clear.

City is not as progressive or as courageous as some would have them. There is no reason to endorse dinolfo who is a crony and part of a bigger crony system

The choice is clear. It’s the difference between eating steak or eating hot dogs. Hasman has the education, experience and qualifications to move us forward into the information age while protecting our security and identities.

Our Miss Cheryl can teach us which hairspray holds up in high humidity all while singing “Paradise By The Dashboard Light”.

The choice is clear. On November 4th - VOTE HASMAN tomhasman.com
