More small-minded thinking, this time the Monroe County Clerk

The D&C endorsed incumbent Cheryl Dinolfo over Challenger Tom Hasman in the County Clerk’s race. Via the D&C

:

Incumbent clerk, Republican Cheryl Dinolfo, seeking her second four-year term, isn’t acknowledging aspirations to higher office. But some of her actions in her first term, such as fighting former Gov. Spitzer on his plan to issue driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants, looked too much as if she were trying to make a political name. Brooks’ ascent hasn’t been lost on Dinolfo.

Fortunately, those political showdowns weren’t common in Dinolfo’s first term.

Later in the endorsement, the D&C had this to say

:

On the immigrant license matter, Dinolfo should have challenged Spitzer more within the system — in court, rather than threaten outright defiance. That smacked of political grandstanding.

So, which is it D&C, grandstanding or non-grandstanding? Political or non-political? But the big thing here is, per the D&C, Dinolfo isn’t political. Yeah, right. She has people who work for her on her Campaign staff. One of them was doing political work instead of the people’s work.

Then there is this

:

She proved a capable administrator who has worked hard to modernize the operations and bring in new revenue by trying to direct passport and licensing business to her office.

New revenue, eh? How much and where did it go? Specifics, please? Because, what is the cost of doing business with the clerks office? Privacy.

We have millions of documents that potentially have a social security number on them on line. This known about for over a year and nothing done. Unsurprisingly, the D&C pulled its punches. - yet again brought up this year and Ms Dinolfo turned a press conference into yet another grandstanding event - show you that she is more concerned with herself than privacy.

No kidding.

What are our choices? An info security expert in the form of Tom Hasman who offers his own solutions and can bring the Clerks Office forward or more of the same in the form of Cheryl Dinolfo - the D&C choice is laughable.

I just called and did the cancellation of the paper to my door.

in my prior job i was responsible for several areas of information technology and i can say without any hesitation that dinolfo is completely irresponsible. Additionally should anyones identity be stolen and it leads back to the clerk site she should be held personally responsible since it was her decision to keep the site up.

Nothing for nothing but, what the hell is wrong with these people? Monroe county government is supposed to provide services, protect the citizens and more. The fact numbers were found on the site should instantly result in them taking the site offline until its fixed. If dinolfos children had say their social security numbers sitting out live at say mySpace would she be saying, “Oh… its no big threat”.

The newspaper should be ashamed of itself and anyone/everyone should simply cancel it.
