Obama beating McCain by better than 2 to 1 in NY

Not that New York was ever going to be a swing state — seeing as Kerry won the state by 18% over Bush in 2004 — the result of the latest SurveyUSA poll of our state confirms the pattern that we have been seeing for several weeks.

Here are the results:

  • Obama leads McCain 64-31
  • Since their last poll was taken eighteen days ago, Obama has increased his share of the vote by 7% while McCain has dropped 7%
  • Obama leads McCain in all demographics (gender, age, race, wealth, religion, and education level)
  • McCain gets only one in eight Democrats (in Hillary Clinton’s home state), while Obama is getting the support of one-third of Republicans

The poll was conducted among 547 likely voters in the state and has a margin of error of +/-4.1%. It was taken over the weekend, October 11th and 12th.
