There’s no place for theft in the political process - Updated

A resident of Rochester was arrested last night for stealing McCain and Kuhl lawn signs. There are few things in the political arena that I hate more than people who try to prevent others from expressing their beliefs and opinions because they disagree with them. Four years ago, both of the Kerry-Edwards signs that I had on my lawn were stolen within days of when I put them in. And this time around, I had to reserve an Obama-Biden lawn sign because they are in such high demand.

This from the D&C:

[The suspect] was stopped about 6:20 p.m. on Route 96 in Victor, Ontario County and deputies found numerous political signs for Republican presidential candidate John McCain and Rep. Randy Kuhl, R-Hammondsport in [the suspect's] vehicle, along with yard signs for the Cub Scouts, deputies said.

Please: whether you are conservative or progressive; a Democrat, a Republican, or an Independent (or none of the above) don’t take other people’s lawn signs. Just because it is on the side of the road, that doesn’t mean that you can just take it. Please, whoever you support or oppose in this election, don’t trample on other people’s right to free speech.

[Update: btp here. So many people have told me their Obama signs've been stolen, and this is the guy the police catch?  One family near where I live had their lawn sign stolen so many times they finally taped it to a tree with packing tape. Have any readers had their signs stolen?]
