Palin Op-ed in D&C - Cheney no model to emulate

Thank you - Thank you - Thank you.

Look, we disagree with the D&C editorial board about a lot of things but not this. Outstanding Editorial. I recoiled in horror at her statement on Cheney during the VP debate. Looks like the D&C Editorial board did as well.

Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin handled her debate experience relatively well last week. But on one issue, she left reason — and history — behind.

Actually, it wasn’t an issue she tripped over. It’s a person, current Vice President Dick Cheney. Palin suggested that the Cheney activist approach to the vice presidency was some sort of model for his would-be successors.

In fact, as Palin’s Democratic opponent Joe Biden accurately said, Cheney has been perhaps the most dangerous vice president in American history.

[snip]

If he behaves as he has in the past, Cheney will contest every effort at full disclosure. In the past, he’s gone so far as to suggest that, as president of the Senate, he’s not subject to accountability and disclosure rules governing the executive branch. He will wear the cloak of secrecy as long as he is allowed by Congress and those who enforce freedom of information laws.

Palin does her cause no good by suggesting that, as vice president, she will be as antagonistic to open government as Cheney has been. His approach to the job has been: thumb your nose at the public and seize all the power you can get.

Remember Sarah Palin said that Dick Cheney’s only bad decision was shooting his hunting partner in the face. Here video Biden and Palin’s take on Dick Cheney, On expanded VP power, here is Rachel Maddow’s take on Palin’s answer as well as original footage.

Let’s remember that it is really about John McCain because selection of a VP candidate was his first “presidential” act. He selected Sarah Palin who comes off grossly uninformed at best.
