Dollinger endorsed by Paterson

Governor Paterson officially endorsed a number of Democratic challengers running in Republican held state senate districts.

From NYPolitics.com:

Gov. David Paterson is endorsing his first Democratic Senate candidates in November’s elections that will test Republican control of the Senate.

Paterson is supporting Democrat Richard Dollinger over Republican Sen. Joseph Robach in the 56th Senate District in Monroe County. Dollinger had previously held the post before leaving to take a judgeship.

This interesting statement was also included in the article:

Paterson had said he wouldn’t use the clout of his office to go after the Republican majority as a high-priority mission, the way his predecessor, Gov. Eliot Spitzer, had.

I think that’s a big mistake, given Paterson’s personal popularity in the state. On the other hand, Spitzer’s vendetta against Long Island Republican senators turned into a bit of an obsession and it only added to the dysfunctional nature of Albany. I think Paterson wants a Democratic state senate, but he isn’t willing to go all-out for it, because in the rare chance that Republicans maintain their majority, he wants to remain on friendly terms so that they will be more willing to pass his agenda.
